Last night the daughter had a party in town.... she bought some of that ridiculous and expensive bundled firewood from the store instead of asking us for some.
She wanted to make s'mores, and asked me to make a fire in one of those portable firepit things.
Well.... no kindling to be had anywhere, just logs.
I had no axe, hatchet or even bushcraft knife.....none of those.....
Nobody there had any useful items either.
I did however have my 830 marksman and in the car I had a hammer and a large screwdriver.

So I used the 830 to cut the plastic wrap off the expensive logs....lol
Then made kindling and smaller pieces of wood by batoning the screwdriver through some of the logs with the hammer.

After all that, got a fire going for the kids.... then they had no skewers to roast the marshmallows.
Out came the marksman 830 to save the day again, and whittle a few skewers out of branches from the plum tree :)

I added a good hatchet to the tool kit in the car today!

Hahaha! Great story.
At first I was thinking "omg, he did not baton that Marksman with a nailing hammer!".
Good thing you had that screwdriver or else you would've looked at the hammer, then looked at your knife and been like "sorry kids, there be no fire tonight"

Hahaha!
There is no way I would ever consider batoning my Marksman ever ever ever!!!
It is too beloved to use in such a manner ;)
But it does get used nearly every day for suitable tasks, since I pocket it 95% of the time.

I actually briefly considered driving the 12 miles back home to get some more appropriate wood and a hatchet.
I think I will need to put a suitable bushcraft knife in the car tool kit also, along with the hatchet that was put in the car today!

I'm not gonna lie, I cringed a little at first too. I knew you were smarter than that though. Great job, Mr. DesertBushcrafter!

I was also worried the story would not go well.

However, that said I'm sure the "net ninjas" and net outdoor experts will be equally terrorized that you can baton with a screwdriver! If I can use a screwdriver then I don't really need a knife which will smash through cinder blocks, pinto car doors, etc.
