Marksman pivot screw working loose

Hey there, I have the modded Marksman from SKBlades, love the knife in S35vn and had Jason B thin the grind for me, so now it's a real slicer. But have an issue with the pivot working loose after 2-3 weeks of steady use. I can get it adjusted well with blade centered, and have applied blue loctite (after cleaning with acetone) to the screw 3 times now. Each time, it'll work its way loose from usage, eventually I hear a little pop, the loctite bond is broken, the blade decenters, and I have to start all over again.

Has anyone else experienced this with a Marksman? Maybe I should go hardcore and apply red loctitie (j.k. :D).

If I were you I'd contact Buck before going any further,Who knows they may have already dealt with this issue and already have a solution.

Well I decided to try once more, maybe 4th time's the charm. I cleaned and put blue loctite on the pivot, centered, let it sit 24 hours. Now it's working fine again. We'll see if it lasts, if not, it'll be time to call Buck or switch to red loctite. :p

Strange I'am wondering if the threads aren't quite right with the pivot screw assembly . I would see if Buck could send you a new pivot screw and nut. Don't use Red loctite, its no joke and would require drilling the head off the pivot for you to ever get it apart or so much heat if would ruin your knife. Plus would probably void your warranty :D. Call Buck ;)

Yup I was kidding about the red, I've never put that on a knife. Did use it once on a semi-permanent muzzle device attachment on a rifle, it was great for that, and I was still able to get it off later when I needed to sell it. But yes, if it happens again with this pivot, yes I'll be contacting Buck as I'm out of ideas. I even got new blue loctite, wondering if perhaps my existing tube had 'aged' too much, plus I wanted to try the new 'stick' version that's kind of a waxy chapstick-like substance, a little easier to apply. Hoping it holds this time.

That's not a bad idea, would you see this as being a stronger bond than blue loctite, but weaker than red?

I forgot to mention I did call Buck once about this pivot thing a few months earlier, at the time they said either loctite it again or send it in. They would not send the pivot assembly in the mail, they feel it is part of the essential knife mechanism and they don't want you messing with it.

Try some Teflon tape like that used on plumbing components.
yep.

i was skeptical first time i heard it. said why not.....stopped chicago screws from coming loose on my gun belt. then tried it on pivot screw.....stays right where ya want it.

Yep good tip, maybe the next thing to try if needed, and easier than sending back to Buck.

I've never used it, is there a certain brand, thickness, etc, I should be using for this application?

i just used what i had in my garage. i doubt it matters.

Haha, I must've been having a senior moment, just realized I already had some and use it the last time I swapped out a shower head a couple years ago. I'll try it next time this comes up.

Are you guys using this in all cases on your pivot screws, or only on the ones where blue loctite isn't getting it done?

i use it when i need it for a pivot. most knives i own arent an issue. i find it easier than blue locktite due to cure time required with locktite.
