Ive noticed over the while, that there happen to be a number of Martial artists in the Cantina. Just curious to see how many there are now, and what art/s you practice?

As for me, Ive dabbled here and there, but for now Im in Inayan Eskrima.

Just started training in Kali and JKD.

Twenty five, thirty years ago with the right ammo I could place at least 5 of the 6 shots from my 2&1/2" Model 19 on a gallon milk jug out to 75 yards. Today I do well to make 5 out of 6 hits on a gallon milk jug at 25 yards with an SKS.

Put me down as Tonopah/Goldfield style martial arts, ( with some Dodge City/Tombstone style added. Thats where the phrase "Always know WHEN to get out of Dodge, always know HOW to get out of Dodge" comes from ).

I took tae kwan do when I was 14. I got all the way to a blue belt:o

Too fat and slow to do anything now, but I have thought about trying to get involved in something. TKD is the only thing offered around here that would be close enough of a drive to attend regularly(and that's the point right?) I have heard of some guy from the fellow that taught my concealed carry class. Seems that he is into having students hit him and then smacking them around in their first time in class, just to show what he knows etc. I'm really not into that sort of thing, but maybe something else will come up sooner or later.

I study various martial arts

Ju jitsu - for the grappling, locks, quick take downs, and overall utility

Kickboxing - so i never forget what it feels like to take a punch and also is the best cardio workout in the world IMO. Also helps my coordination balance endurance and controlling that "fear factor" that we all feel in hostile situations... we spar in almost every class.

Arnis Kali - stick/knife fighting. sticks are found everywhere, whether it be a broken pool Q, a dead branch, a bar-stool leg etc etc... better learn how to use sticks well because they are perhaps the most available weapon around.

also this stuff is good for the soul. adds balance and perspective to my life. although i practice a lot of different arts im a newb to it all... still a white belt... not that belts really matter to me anyways but still it would be nice to have that black belt one day ;)

im no martial arts freak... i just enjoy warrior type stuff in general. :)

In July I am joining some friends who practice Kali Silat, and probably also a more formal class in ju-jitsu. I'll let you all know when I recover from the bruises and bashed knuckles. If I can type. :)

Had to reduce it down to just Aikido, but that suits me just fine:)

Shobu Aikido (Aikido Schools of Ueshiba, Saotome Sensei--Shihan.)

28 yrs martial trainings & still going, studied arts from Okinawa, Japan, Tibet, Burma and China. Also practice art of Sig 45 and my favorite skill.. can run a good distance pretty fast.

Goshin Jutsu (kind of an Okinawan street fighting, w/ & w/out weapons, a hard art).

Aikibudo Kobudo, an older imperial form of the Aiki styles. Even learned shikko walking and ground fighting in that one, as well as knife and sword.

Did heavy armed and armored european style combative arts in SCA, and progressed into some more historical contexted euro fighting, which involves grappling and weapons, locks and pressure points, and actual historical guards and wards (similar to HACA or ARMA). The SCA would NEVER consider fighting this authentically, too easy to get hurt, even with armor on.

Now I'm studying the art of Applied Cowardice, or "fighting without fighting." May sound like a joke, but it aint. It is a very mental martial discipline, (fights are first fought and won in the mind) and I'll say no more.

My wife practices "Stu-pi-do" the art of befuddlinng your opponent by acting dense, then taking your opportunity to leave. Works well on civil servants, or any other inside-the-box folks.

...Tang Soo Do, Tae Kwan Do (I have a Blue tip), Shotokan, Shutokai and Kyo-Koshin Karates, Muay Thai, Western Kickboxing, Wushu, Wing Chun, Lo Ha Ba Fut, Choy Lee Fut, Lung Ying, and Hung Gar Kung Fu styles, a little Bando, JKD, Freestyle, Shingen Ryu Batou Jutsu (teaches Daito, Shoto, Tanto and Naginata), various Aikido styles, Hockheim CQC, Knife and Archipelago Combatives (a flawless blend of everything that works, including Arnis De Mano, Modern Arnis, Bujitsu Kempo, Aiki-Jitsu, Kajukenbo, Ju Jitsu and Sadiq Kuntao Silat), Wayne Roy Ninjutsu (a modern, tactical version of Bujinkan Ninjutsu)...

And a few more I may have forgotten! :D:D:D

I'm calling that the best answer on this thread.

When I was 22 I had a pair of jerks in a pick up truck almost T-bone me in an intersection and flipped them off. They didn't like that for some reason, and followed me. I pulled into a driveway and got my keys in the car's trunk before they could pull over. They stopped at the driveway's end and yelled for a minute and then the passenger started to pop the door open. He didn't get out cause at the same time my trunk lid popped open and the driver burned rubber getting out of there. About a minute later they'd pulled back around to the corner up the block waiting to see if I was bluffing. I walked out to the middle of the road and turned tolet them see the 2&1/2" nickeled M19 in my right hand and pointed at the ground.

Amazingly, I behaved like sams for the next thirty years and never needed a gun.

Then I busted my leg ( and missed the chance to ask the EMT to get my .25 auto and slip it in my shaving kit when they took me to the hospital ). She'd have done it too,or gone home and told her hubby and he would have made it up to Reno with one of his spare 45 autos the next day after giving her hell. Remember what I said about it being nice when your gunsmith brings you flowers? He was an EMT too and he always took his 45 with him to the hospital!

Today I have a hi-cap auto and 3 spare mags in my shaving ( hospital ) kit along with a Dhankuta. I even have a straight razor in there in case someone asks what a guy with a beard needs a shaving kit for. Maybe I'll want to shave it off.

But that's just ramblings. Most of being armed is looking for ways to avoid trouble and letting someone else look for trouble. They'll find it, and save you the trouble more than likely. Let them make bail.

taijiquan (WuHao originally, now a Chen variant):
empty hand
straight sword (jian)
saber (dao - broadsword)

"Self-defense" aspect secondary to physical/mental discipline.
