I have all three of the MBC knives (Gunting, Chinook, and Ayoob) Does anyone know what other MBC knives are available or soon to be available? Thanks

Hmm. Just off the top of my head... The Temperance should be out within the next several months. Also, the Fred Perrin fixed blade is going to appear before the year's out, I believe. Plus, the Bob Lum fixed blade tanto should come out at some point... I may be forgetting stuff though.

Rumors - There's been talk of a "Chinook II", but I don't know anything about it. And a Szabo UUK prototype was made, but who knows when it'll go into production.

I don't think the ATR is classified as an actual "Martial Blade Craft" knife, although it seems like it would do well in that role. Additionally, the Bob Lum Darndo (Chinese Bowie) might get made at some point, but I don't think that going to a MBC knife either.

Hi Guntaholic. The Temperance Jr is an MBC model and as mentioned should be out in a few months.

Also, as mentioned, the FB Lum & Perrin are not specifically designed for MBC.

Another model, that should make its debut this year, is the Meerkat I think. A cricket style blade (with 'cusp')on a navigator frame. Handle material should be contoured G 10, I think. Best of all, carry positions should be ambidextrious!!

While I am not too fond of the Civilian/Matriarch models for my personal carry, these Meerkats appeal much more to me as a 'claw-shaped' blade. Anyone got any additional info on the Meerkat?

A small hook blade in G-10 ??? This might be interesting.

Hey, does anybody know anything about the proposed drone for the Chinook? Like, when is it expected, price range, etc?

Thanks...

Isn' t the Matriarch an MBC model? Originally restricted to South African police/ military? Maybe no longer, since it will see free flow as a standard offering in the US market soon.

Nakano 2,
I don't think that the Civilian & Matriarch are considered MBC, because they are designed for people with little or no training. Martial Blade Craft can manisfest only with training. Which doesn't mean people who aren't currently training in a MBC system can't own one, just that the blades full potential won't be realized. IMHO

I am not sure the lock on the matriarch and civilian are up to MBC specs. Maybe Sal can give us some more insight on what makes a knife part of the MBC line?

HMM the old MBC qualifiers..
well can they take abusive impact against the locks and still function..???
Can the operate closed?
Can they operate reversed?
do they, can they serve a specific LEO-Martial Arts , military usage?
are they cutting edge? ( no pun intended)

If they are of older vintage..Such as Civilian & Matriarch..give them a chance in the new incarnations down the road to have lock strength that makes them as strong as the new MBC edged tools..

All things evolve!!!!

The Temperance JR is a whopper of an edged tool..
Its MBC thru n thru.....

Poppa Spyder maybe can say it better...

Thanks Bram...Good to see you back! I would love to see a Civilian with a lock up to MBC standards. Than again I am sure it is plenty tough already!!! Got to love those spydies!

Martial Blade Craft is a new approach to a changing art. Not all MBC knives have an MBC rated lock (200 inch/lbs of lock strength for every inch of blade length).

Models like the Civilian and Matriarch should have as much negative force applied to the lock because of the nature of the blade design.

Other "MBC" models like trainers have strong locks (heavy duty or better).

Current models that have MBC rated locks are the Gunting, Chinook & Temperance jr. This means that these models were designed to have that lock strength from the beginning of the design. There will be more in the future.

Lock strength is an interesting study. Also keep in mind that lock reliability is more critical than ultimate strength.
