There are still a few open spots for the January MBC classes being offered at SFO. I realize most of you live far, far away but for anyone who's interested here it is….

MBC Program Basics

Instructor: Michael Janich (professional knife expert, author and instructor)

Where: Spyderco Factory Outlet 4564 N. Hwy. 93 Golden, Colorado 80403

When: January 20, 2001 9am-5pm: Civilian MBC Level 1 Course
January 21, 2001 9am-5pm: Law Enforcement MBC Level 1 Course

*Both sessions consist of an eight-hour block of instruction and hands-on training. The Law Enforcement class is for LEO personnel only. To ensure individual attention, class size and enrollment will be limited.

Cost: $125.00. This includes: Continental Breakfast, lunch and trainer knife.

Curriculum Includes: Tactical folding knife carry and deployment, martial knife grips, cutting and thrusting methods, use of natural body methods in conjunction with the knife, one-hand opening techniques, angles of attack, defensive responses, reflex training drills, and the fundamentals of Janichs' "Zone Defense" system.

Sounds like it will be a great session.

For those of you that can attend I highly recommend training with Mike..Mike is definately one of the best.. (at using knives!)and he's a top notch instructor as well...

Go for it!!!! Really..
I bet Mike throws a touch of Serrada in there as well..LOL..oh you lucky attendees...

Joyce..Make sure you go train with Mike...

Please make good tapes of these classes and let the less fortunate(those living in Europe..) can share this knowledge.

EX ALTO FULGOR

I agree. "Official" Spyderco MBC tapes, whether released through Janich, Paladin, or SFO would be great.

Bram already has his Gunting series, let's see some other videos for the Delica/Endura/Military/Police family.
In comparison to other blades, obviously the clip and the Sypdie hole make the SKUs unique in both carry and deployment. It would be nice to have these aspects elaborated on in a video, as well as defensive techniques that apply to the smaller, legal sized Spydercos (including the non-tactical Ladybug/Dragonfly/Cricket - which properly used are all viable defense tools).

Joel

BTW - And if any forum members attend this upcoming training, please write up a detailed review.

PALADIN PRESS thru Mike Janich is planning a JAK-Chinook, Janich- new knife, Frank-Gunting tape series for MBC..there will be a tape for each of us...each of us seen teaching our classes at SPYDERCO then an instructional tape to go with it..

Mike Janich's PALADIN PRESS: Fighting Folders Volume #1 and Upcoming Volume #2 are REALLY MBC curriculum tapes!!!

VideoQuest and I are doing a 5 tape series on MBC showing ALL SPYDERCO models ESPECIALLY the new MBC line up..this will dovetail with PALADIN's tapes and my GUNTING Series (which has new volumes coming out)

OK??? The 5 tape series will go for a VERY VERy Discounted price plus shipping....so that everyone can afford a complete library of learning....

Again..If you have a chance GO SEE AND TRAIN WITH MIKE... you will learn alot!
Soon JAK and myself will be out at SPYDERCO teaching as well...

MBC is going to be big..
its the new way to do blade craft and use and edged tool for self defense!!!!

One day the concepts of MBC will be used in an olympic type event as in Fencing or Sabre competition..or the NEW Olympic version of Arnis...

Other big name Knife instructors are in the pipeline as well...
Mossad Ayoob has a new tactical knife in MBC...
Laci Szabo has a prototype with Sal now of the folding UUK..( a frame lock! no less)
Sal himself has the ATR.. ( very very cool knife!)
Maybe Graciela Casillas, Hock Hockhiem...
you never know....

have a great day!!!

I think you can include a fixed blade from Fred Perrin too!!!
Bram, The first three Gunting tapes were great!!! Any hints on what the new Gunting tapes will cover?
Sal, Thanks for brining this MBC line to life. It's really got me excited about knives again!!!

Joyce:

You're right about being a bit too far away, especially in my case; however, as soon as I manage to relocate to the U.S., I'll make it a point to attend a future class. Together with visiting you guys and SFO, it should prove to be a great time!

Bram:

Great news on the next videos! I already have Janich's first one on order (should arrive in the next few days), together with JAK's "Reverse Grip KF". BTW, I also have your "Leading Edge" series, and I really like it.
I wonder if your VideoQuest MBC videos will also include the Civilian - I know about JAK's, which is supposed to be excellent, but I've yet to buy it.
And I'm still counting on having you as a teacher once I move to Florida!

I'd just like to applaud Sal and Spyderco for recognizing that training is the important component to self defence.

By stepping up and working with these top notch instructors, they are leading the way in blade craft.

I guess Spyderco is used to being out in front, and plans to stay there.

These sessions are a real bonus for anyone living near Golden.

Sal, you wouldn't happen to have a job opening for a bodyguard/loss prevention director/driver/collection (accounts receivable) agent/control tactics trainer/cook/gopher/janitor would ya?

I would LOVE to attend one (or both) of these training sessions! Unfortunately I just got back from a week at Wallyworld, and won't be going anywhere for awhile. Any chance of another opportunity in June through August? (A perfect way to incorporate a family-visit to Littleton with this)

Well, Janich's video has just arrived... Now I've got to find the time to watch it (might have to wait till Saturday).

Bram, are you there? Wonder if you could answer my questions...
