Anyone heard of these folks?

How do they rate?

Any actually used or seen one of there knives?

Thanks,
Don

Handled one at BLADE. Very good fit & finish. One I handled looked like a Randall Aircrewman. Seem like good knives. Only seen them using 440C, so some people may not like them if they want the newer steels.

Don,
I have handled about ten of them. In my opinion they are well crafted knives that are changing hands currently at a decent value. Don't expect exact Randall replicas. As Halfneck pointed out the finish on the 440C is different than the Randall steels and finish. Sheaths are very nice, just a smidge below Greg Gutchers. They also craft knives in the style of other makers, all well done. All in all imo a very good bang for your buck. Jim and James Behring at Treeman knives have a constant and changing inventory of them. Deal with them at ease.

I just read that they are switching over the steel to CPM S30V. They also will do work in 1095 and 01.

I bought a Martin MR1-7 from Bill at Michigan knives. It's a Randal 1-7 copy and fit and finish is just about as good as a Randall, although the blade grind lines are sharper (more exagerated) and I think everything is a bit thicker/heavier built. The sheath it came with is of similar style to Sullivan's, has a pouch & stone, but it isn't up to Greg Gutcher's quality.:(

All in all a very decent knife for the money and available without the 4 + year wait or paying going prices for a Randall. If I were to go to war, I'd buy the Martin without hesitation. It should be a good collectible over time. The Martins stamp their blades with the year of manufacture. They have tons of styles and Treeman Knives always seems to have some as well as Michigan Knives.

Another long time Texas maker's work you might want to look at is De Leon made Knives. Mr. De Leon is a Viet Nam vet that has been making "Randall style" knives since the 70's. He makes some very nice, heavy duty knives

I'm lucky enough to live close to the Martins and have been to their shop. Real world craftsmanship from the begining. Newt makes the knives and his father, Eddie, makes the sheaths. Everything is cryro treated twice and Newt can make some serious grinds. I have one of their "not in inventory yet" customs on order now, just need to mail them the wood I want used. Don't be afraid to get one of their knives now as I'm sure their prices will go up as their reputation does ;)

my friend from Knife Forums _Lance has a bunch and swears by them!
