Picking up the book LIVING BUDDHA, LIVING CHRIST by Thich Nhat Hahn to read today, I find these quotes, and more on the book's back cover.

Perhaps on this day of remembrance for Dr. King we should also remember that he said this:

"Thich Nhat Hahn is a holy man, for he is humble and devout. He is a scholar of immense intellectual capacity. His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism, to world brotherhood, to humanity."

( Martin Luther King, Jr., in nominating Thich Nhat Hahn for the Nobel Peace Prize. )

"Thich Nhat Hahn is more my brother than many who are nearer to me in race and nationality, because he and I see things the exact same way."

Thomas Merton

"Thich Nhat Hahn writes with the voice of the Buddha."

Sogyal Rinpoche

"He shows us the connection between personal, inner peace and peace on earth."

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

I want to thank my brothers Bill Martino Yvsa Gigagei, and Munk for their ability to speak simply, honestly, and from the greatness of their true hearts despite the diversity of religions. I am lucky to have found them during my sojourn in this life. Rusty

The violence that follows peace advocates is very confusing.

Martin Luther King said the riots in Chicago were more violent and bigoted than Alabama or Mississippi.

I was there and still don't what to think. I still ponder the real thing not able to see the end.:(

When God sends towering genius to this world, he usually gives them unpronounable names so that we might recognize them.

Notice the title said, "living"? That's the important part.

Yes, because our normal reaction to those setting a powerful example for us is to kill them off right away before they infect others, or before we have to face ourselves in the mirror.

"Mea maxima culpa" ( or something like that ).

Thich Naht Hanh is an inspiration. I believe it is in the book you are reading where he said that:

No single religion has the monopoly on truth.

If all religious leaders thought that way, we would see a lot more peace and goodwill.

I am not a religous person, but are I believe a spiritual one,
like some others I believe in God with an extra o...... just trying to be good and believing in it is more than enough for me.

Well Guys, it wouldn't be real unless they wanted to fight or argue about it. That's the conumdrum, (sic) the damned if you do and damned if you don't. Try to have some compassion for the pitfalls of men as they strive to know God.

Thich Nhat Hahn is a very effective Zen master... His books show the reader how to live in the moment regardless of the body's activities. It shows one how to be fully present... Mindfullness is his way of saying "One With Nature", "In Tune With Being", etc., etc. Many paths ask us to grasp this uncommonly simple understanding, yet it remains arduous for many to grasp. Many paths and traditions lead to the same truth... Thich Nhat Hahn's written words are such that they are a unique vehicle which gives one the opportunity to grasp the essence of things as they really are. His books are gems, especially the "Miracle of Mindfullness".

Another gem of a book; exceedingly lucid is the "Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. Same experience (truth)! In fact, the book itself is a "non technique technique" if you will; definitely capable of transformation. One of the very best I ever read...

Lots of great books out there by many different traditions. The best masters and teachers all say the exact same thing, albeit with different words. The essence IS and cannot be otherwise...

I couldn't agree more! I just read Miracle of Mindfullness (for the 1st, but NOT last time) and it really blew me away. Also a co-worker recommended Eckhart Tolle's book just the other day and I just checked it out of the library today---can't wait to read it.

You know its funny, I can't seem to read fiction anymore...There's just too many important books to read and so little time...literally.

BTW, I've missed dropping in here. Everytime I do I find some thread like this and remember why I come back and need to keep coming back!

"Good Morning Holy Spirit" by Benny Hinn. Great book. It really effected me.

It was the most life changing book I have ever read. (Besides the Bible of-course.)

If you are into spiritual stuff and want to know more about the Spirit of God, then this book will help. It teaches who the Holy Spirit is and how you can have a relationship with Him.

Amazon.com carries it as well as many other places I'm sure.
