Awhile back Blues and a few others helped me get a Martindale Golok..I just wanted to thank you guys. I ended up ordering a few Goloks, Jungle knives and one Paratrooper.

Since then my sons and I have put good use to the Golok and Jungle knife. Here is a pic of them before they got worked by a 10 year old and a 16 year old.

Over all review is that the Golok is a great tool…it is much heavier steel than the Jungle Knife, both have a great forward thrusting affect. Golok is made in England and I think the Jungle Knife is made in Africa. They both taper well to the point. The steel is tuff and holds up well over a good deal of chopping and slashing threw the semi thick woods of the spring growth we have here in the Midwest.

Negatives: The Blade finish is extremely coarse and the grinds on all three were unacceptable…so I re-did the grinds, smoothed out the wood and stained/sealed the handles. Since they are carbon steel I also cold blued the blades to keep rust away.

On one of the Jungle knives the handle was a total piece of crap, not even at the ricasso.. So I removed whatever wood that was on it and replaced with Black Linen Micarta…This works 100% better…I also finished out the blade surface a little finer. All these things I have done have made it out to be a great knife…but not too nice to get used the hell out of.

Soon a Golok will be sporting a Micarta handle.

Sweet. I have 4 martindale #2's that are awaiting my attention. Hehe.

Nice going, JpN. You know how to add a touch of class to those already worthy knives. Well done! (And glad to have been of some small help.)

What do you think of the Paratrooper?

ParaTrooper is a cool knife. I can’t really say about the steel. I didn’t really buy it to use like the others so I don’t know how it will perform. I did redo the grind (top and bottom) and the steel felt soft…but it all does compared to D-2. I could not look at it with the grind the way it was.

The blade also has the black coating that looks like it would come off pretty fast with any use. The handle is a very soft white wood…like birch (not sure). It needed to be cleaned up bad…and made dark.

I decided to put some green Micarta on a golok…I will post it when it’s all done

Did you have any issues with edge damage on the Jungle knife, they get very thin towards the tip.

That new handle and bluing looks very nice. I see a potential business, right there. I know I'd sell 'em.

Hey Cliff...Nope, no issues with the point, but the bevel is not as wide. Thats just the way it works (for me). We tested it out and the Micarta is so much better.

The Green Golok should be done by tomorrow and I will post pics be for it gets taken out.

You are right Robert...these would sell. I have used Collins and these one from Brazil but ..These Martindale products are great.

The Green Golok came out pretty nice…

I like it much better than the wood handle, maybe because I put a palm swell in. If I did it again I would use one solid piece of Micarta instead of two 3/8” pieces with a shim all glued together…

I did put the pin/rivot in just in case. The tubes are flared out too..so the act as a rivot…We will see what these boys of mine can do with it!

I would also like to know the best place to get a Martindale Golok.Cutsforth Knives doesn't have any.

langston302,..Thanks for the link.Have you ordered or know someone who has ordered from them? The price seems great, nearly too good.

yeah David Farmer has ordered from them and he was very pleased with the service...Lo Ink is a land survey company and this is the general issue for the field surveyours . so i would say they are very reputable
