Hello Everyone,

Has any one tried a Marvin Poole Knife? His knives are all fixed blade and are made from high carbon 440-C steel. He has been making knives since 1979. Anyway he now has a website up if anyone is curious and wants to take a look. The website is http://www.sagecreek1.com

Hi Marvin, and welcome to Bladeforums. Glad to see you here.

First off--we aren't dummies. Like yourself we like quality and KNOW quality. And that extends to our relationships and how we communicate.

Please speak of yourself in first person and not in the third person. You will have a much more appreciative audience.

Looks like you make some nice knives. That we can all agree on!

Shameless self-promotion is not a bad thing, as long as you don't throw deception into the mix.

According to the website, Mr. Poole does not use computers. The purveyor is not Poole, but a Ms. Rhonda Erline. I would then assume the first post is from Ms. Erline. Thus she would naturally refer to Mr. Poole in the third person. Maybe it's not decption but just poor communication.

I met Mr. Poole at the Blade Show in Atlanta last June. We discussed many aspects of knifemaking at length.

He makes some very nice knives and seems to be a super nice guy.

Glad to see he has a web site up and running.

Looking forward to seeing him again this June.

Brownshoe, you probably nailed it. Even the website uses a mix of 'He' or 'I' in descriptions. (I'm so confused!) Probably a case of well intentions intermixed with a vague sense of who is doing the talking.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Rhonda, if this is you, welcome again. :)

my first custom knife was a marvin poole...even before i knew what a custom knife was. it was a nice little 3 finger bird knife. fit and finish was fair..but it was a great cutter...gave it to my father...one of the few knives i miss having...fit my hand well

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your replies! I am Rhonda Erline and I do apologize for any and all confusion I may have caused with my last post :) Marvin does not own a computer and does not choose to do business on the internet directly. I am his internet knife seller. I own an manage the website for him. I welcome any feedback or questions.
Hope everyone has a great day!

I have a Marvin Poole knife. I picked this up about 18 years ago! For lack of a better description I'll call it a skinning/dressing out blade shape. It is full tang in design with some very beautiful sambar stag handles, 440C blade steel, and sharp, sharp, SHARP. I've used it with great success to help my brother-in-law dress out several deer over the years. Marvin makes a very functional and well fitted knife.

I personally knew this man! Every Christmas when I was a kid the family would go to SC to visit family, and we'd always stop for a night or 2. I actually remember going out back to his little metal shed an watching him work on them! He was very meticulous an focused on his craftsmanship. If you went n the shed with him had to be quite.......he gave me a knife every Christmas for about 3 or 4 years there an I can personal vouch for the quality, craftsmanship, and durability of all his work! He was a great guy who was a positive influence on my life as a child! I'm grateful to have spent the time I did with him! May u rest in peace Marvin Poole! Fyi his knives ARE NOT ALL FIXED BLADE! CLOSE TO THE END OF HIS KNIFE MAKING CAREER HE MOST DEFINITELY BEGAN MAKING FOLDING POCKET KNIVES! IVE HELD THEM AND PERSONALLY WITTNESSED THEM IN PRODUCTION. If I remember correctly it was about the mid 1990's when he started making folding pocket knives!
