I'm reviving this old thread because the OP asks exactly my questions. Thanks.
There are three knives from Maserin in my collection, two were gifts and one I bought on closeout. Here's a run-down of quality F&F:
1) Gentleman's Pen Knife with mokume bolsters and white pearl handles.
The fit and finish is very good. Very smooth with a firm but not 'snappy' spring action. The handles and mokume bolsters are stunning. The blade is a brushed-matte finish with a perfectly smooth edge.
2) Not sure what it's called, model 162BH on the box, but it's a single-blade traditional pocketknife. Cattle horn handles, nickel silver bolsters, and a blade with a strong clip point. The blade is polished, and again the edge is perfectly smooth. The action is perfectly smooth, with a gentle pull and an average 'snap.' Otherwise, the f&f isn't quite as good on this one. There's a bit of wobble to the blade. There are tiny gaps and slight lips where the handle slabs meet the bolsters. And the blade rests in an off-center position when closed.
3) My newest, model 338BW, is their Atti model with wood handles. The knife has rippled liners, liner lock, and thumb stud opening. The blade is a brushed-matte finish. There isn't much action on the spring when closing, but the liner lock is perfectly secure - not one bit of play in any direction. The wood handle pieces are perfectly fitted and attractive.
Keep in mind these are not user reviews, and I cannot speak to the durability or longevity of Maserin.
I'll try to find some online pics of these three...
