I thought about and passed on the initial iteration of this knife. It looked like a good value but I didn't need another "good" work knife. It was great for what it was and a good buy under certain circumstances, it just wasn't for me. When the 2nd upgraded version was announced, I was much more interested. It looked very nice with improved fit and finish. I got on the early reserve and was a bit surprised to see the lackluster interest. Perhaps this review will help with that.

I can recommend this knife without reservation. It looks and feels excellent. The canvas micarta looks and feels smooth while retaining a grippy feeling. The blade is well centered and has nice walk and talk. Pull is a nice 5-6. The stonewashed blade comes factory sharp. If a good GEC knife is used as an A+ standard for fit an finish, I would judge these to be a nice A-, perhaps equal to a good Rough Rider in that regard but with a great cover option and a greatly superior D2 blade steel.

Given the production quality in combination with blade steel and price, I find this knife to be very high quality and at a great value. I have included pictures along with a GEC 71 for comparison. The GEC has slightly better fit and finish but the Maserin is longer and thinner with nice cover options and better steel.

I'm not trying to push anyone towards this knife, but if you are considering one or need a knife in this class, it is a winner.
