Hey everyone, I'm currently 15 and living in Dracut Massachusetts, I just wanted to know if anyone has any knowledge on MA knife laws in Dracut, and in several other towns that I cross through regularly, also is there any law that states that someone under 18 can't carry a knife? These questions have been clawing at me ever since I have been into blades, and haven't carried certain ones out of fear of being prosecuted just because I look like a "Punky Teenager." Just wanted to get some other knife nuts input, thanks! :D

I renewed my FID card (rifle and shotgun permit) last year and I asked the firearms licensing officer in Dracut about local knife ordinances while he was processing that gun permit. He said that state law applies; Dracut has no knife ordinances. Personally, I carry a lightweight 4" lockblade folder (Cold Steel "Voyager" with plain, non-serrated edge). There is no age limit for knife carry in MA. Dealers usually won't sell to anyone under 18, but this is their own policy to limit their liability or maybe their insurance company prohibits them from doing so as part of the contract. Just don't carry at school or in any government buildings (court houses, etc.) and you should be fine. Also, make sure you OK it with your parents, because you are a minor and they are responsible for you. Clothing, haircut and general appearance/demeanor are a large factor in who gets questioned or hassled by LEOs. If you look like a punk and act like one, I can assure you that you will be treated like one. Dress well, maintain good grooming/personal hygiene standards and keep a low profile with your EDC knife well-concealed and you should not have any problems with the police.
