As many are aware, we have a pretty devastating fire growing in the Central California foothills at the moment. It just started this weekend and has already consumed over 40,000 acres. At one point last night it was increasing in size by 3500 acres an hour. Unbelievable. At any rate, this is right in Phil Wilson's neck of the woods, so let's all send some good thoughts in his direction.

We have many fires in the western states and I send no smoke;) But plenty of good thoughts for all of the folks in the fire areas!

We have been having big fires all around us here in SW Oregon.
The last week of August visibility was less than 200 yards.
The fires around us are not getting put out and the word is that the firefighters are being sent to fight fires in other more important areas.
Official word is that they have the fires under control but it has been weeks and they are still burning.
This is one (Canyonville) just about an hour north of us. It started on August 14th and is still burning. So far it has burned over 110,000 acres. Estimated containment date is Sept. 30.

About 40 minutes south of us we have the Gasquet fire 30,000+ acres. Estimated containment date October 15.
There are a couple others less than an hour away that are smaller (15,000 acres or less).

The Vet was here doing some dental work on our horses. Some thunder showers that day (last week). Here a loud crack and turn around: lightening strike.

Burned most of the day but they got it under control. This whole range burned several years ago with multiple homes lost and some cattle too. Probably part of the reason they caught it quickly was there wasn't a lot of fuel. Also the incoming rain seen in the pic didn't hurt. Our ranch is just across the valley from this fire and our house is in the middle. Always kind of keep our fingers crossed when it clouds up this time of year.
