I am about to order this knife from Masters of Defence and would like some input from you guys out there. I have never owned any knives from M.O.D. Do ya'll have any comments about this particular knife? Any advice or critiques about this model would be greatly appreciated. My old carry knife was a Microtech Socom Elite. Do any of you think M.O.D. compares in quality to Microtech? This particular model also has the Diamond Ti coating. Does this compare with the Boron coating everyone is raving about?

It's a solid knife with button plunge lock, 154cm steel, double stainless steel liners, aluminium handles with a high ride pocket clip, side opposite the clip has a skateboard type tacky insert that works well. Comes with a fabric belt sheath as well. But I hate this knife! It has the worst edge I've ever seen on a higher priced knife. I sharpened it on all sorts of diamond and ceramic sticks and the front third of the blade is still dull. The back is razor sharp but when I got it the entire blade wouldn't have cut you even. From talking with dealers I understand the entire 875 series comes dull.

What other sharpening methods have been recommened by the dealers that you have talked to? Aside from the blade being difficult to sharpen, what do you think of the overall fit and finish?

I dont have that knife, but I do have the MOD CQD Mark II. Its a great knife. I had to send it in twice for blade play issues, but on the 2nd time, I was basically sent a brand new knife. I havent had issues since. So I know that they have GREAT customer service.

As far as fit and finish, I say Microtech has the edge a bit. My brother has about 7 Microtechs, and although they both feel great, I think Microtech wins in the Fit and Finish department. Also, Mt has the very thin blades which make them awesome slicers. Mods are pretty darn thick.

Blade wise, I've talked to a brand rep through PM on another site and he stated that the blades come very thick since they are "self defense" tools. Also, they make the blades the way they do is because "They look better." He also stated that once you grind down the bevel a bit, it will take a nice edge to it. I myself had the hardest time in the world to get the darn thing sharp. I tried the knife on the smith set, lansky set as well as the sharpmaker. After he told me about the bevel, I quickly grinded it down on a bench diamond stone and I could get it "Pop hair" sharp on the sharp maker.

To be honest, as much as I love my MOD CQD Mark II, it sits at home in its sheath. Even though its "sharp" I carry my BM 558 and delica 4 wave instead. The cut much better since the blade is much thinner than MOD. If you want a thicker blade that is more beefty, than I say pick up the MOD.

The dealer I bought it from was contacted about me returning it, due to it's being so dull. He said he went through his stock of all and "The edges on all suck". I was going to exchange it(for a different knife) but he knocked off some money and I agreed to keep it and ordered some diamond V rods. They did sharpen the blade towards the back 2/3 but I'm not happy with the front 1/3. The knives are made about as well as Mircotech, but I got that socom MT too and its sharp to the tip, plus I wouldn't trade it for 3 of these 875 Mods.
