Masters of Defense Massad Ayoob Razorback???

DgrantD, this is like the fifth knife you've asked about in the past few days. How many have you bought this week? Send some my way will ya? ;)

Seriously though, I don't own one but I handled one. Truthfully, I wasn't that impressed. The narrow blade is way too esoteric for me. I like a pretty face in a knife and the Ayoob folder just didn't appeal to me. They do feel quite sturdy however but I don't think it's any more superior for self-defense than knives from other companies.

I really like some of the MOD knives from an aesthetic POV (except the Ayoob), but I really question whether those "masters" actually design the knives, or merely license their name to the product. I mean I respect Jim Watson for his military knowledge but does he know the ins and outs of designing a folding knife?

I think Massad Ayoob's REAL balliwick
is firearms ( like in his well done book :"In the gravest extreme : The role of the firearm in personal protection" ;)) I just think he decided to "branch out into knives.
IMHO the "razorback" looks to be serviceable enough, if one could get over the "price curve" for ANYTHING MOD! Just my two cents.

heh, Just bought one knife this week, the Benchmade emerson cqc7, I dont own that many knives like 5 probably. I like to get some info on knifes that I might buy before i get them, and right now I am looking for a fixed blade with around a 4 inch blade and that can be eaisly concealed. The ayoob looked like it would fit the bill but i agree the blade just doesnt look to tough It looks a little anorexic. Thanks alot for the help, and If i end up buying as many knives as I ask about, Ill be sure to send a few your way;)

1 thing i dont care for is they are not a full tang knife!! dont believe me, take the handles off and look.........i guess they are strong enuff, though, and i like the way they look, also they carry fairly well (dont really like the sheath though) and are light.

if $$ matters to ya, the CRKT companion w/a custom sheath (i have one and the custom polkawski version also) will do anything the razorback will do (some would say better) at about 1/3 the price ($25 for knife, same for sheath vs about $130 or so, unless ya get a deal, anyway.

i have 2 of the things, paid WAY to much for 1, got the other at a better price......

why do i have 2?? i bought one for me and my wife took it!! she loves hers, carries it in her purse in a sheath made for of all things a mini mag lite, fits the knife fairly well, and easy to draw from her purse, of course wont work any other way w/that sheath.

Okay, but just promise me that you're not going to buy a Benchmade Nimravus, or a Terzuola CQB since I'd be green with envy! If you do, don't tell me.

SIFU1A has the idea! For "more bang for da' buck" go for CRKT. I just got my Ryan "Plan B" w/partial serrations ;) I'm also lookin' into the "high end" in the form of the Spydeco (boo, hiss!;)) Lum Tanto FB03. Whaddya gonna do!

They are definitely a defense knife, with too thick and narrow of a blade for much else. The blade design is almost identical to the HALO III from Microtech. (the HIII blade has a cutout for the firing button)

It is an easily concealed and right sturdy little knife. I would imagine it could wreak havoc in the right hands. I used mine primarily as a boot knife, which worked fine. It is not full tang, but the screw fastened hardened aluminum handles make it darn sturdy.

I've actually owned 2, and bought both in the secondary market at great discount from the original price. I'd recommend them if you are looking for a blade shape/size it offers as a defense knife.

WOW that Benchmade Nimravus is a nice knife, sorry full tang, I cant make any promises to you. The Terzuola CQB is nice also, but a little more pricey and bigger then I want to carry. Ill see though, you siad you want me to tell you if I buy the knife right? No worries youll be the first to know:)
