Is there any plans for a run of these.I would buy a gloss finish too but IMO the Military is a knife that needs to be used and I think I could bring myself to use a mat finish easier than a gloss finish. Also would it be possable to scale one in canvus micarta some thing like the kind used on the high end fixed blades of a couple of other companies.
A close second on my wish list would be a mat finish CF Native.

i think that a matte finish CF is much better then the glossy finish, i personally hate the gloss finish it looks cheap and plastic like

In one thread, Sal said it is easy to put a matte finish on CF but he did not say how you would go about doing it. Any suggestions? Sal?

I'm really suprised there hasn't been one yet ? Seems a natural, we need a carbon fibre model on the Militry at least once ! PLEASE :)

Fine sandpaper, I'd guess, no idea what grit. I'd start at 1200 or 1000, and work to coarser grits until I got something that was matte enough - easier to work from fine to coarse, than to overdo it and try to go back. You *shouldn't* make too much dust, but I hear that carbon fiber dust isn't something you want running around in your lungs, so the paranoid might want a dust mask. You could probably search the shoptalk forum for more carbon fiber tips and tricks.

I got to handle the carbon fiber Military proto at BLADE, and it's a sweet little knife. No liners on the proto, but the carbon fiber was really thick. I tried to squeeze the handle scales together, and it flexed less than my Benchmade AFCK - G10 with dual liners. I'd be interested in seeing how much lateral force it takes before the handles fail, but it's definitely tough enough to get the job done and then some.

Carbon fiber is VERY hazardous to work with. You need a professional grade respirator, gloves, etc. A splinter from CF is a very serious thing.

Uh oh... I wish i'd read this thread a few hours ago. I just put a matte finish on my carbon delica this morning. I used a 240 grit sand paper. I had that dust on my hands and table top.

I didn't get a splinter but I'm sure there is still some dust downstairs around where I was working....better go clean it up VERY thoroughly.

By the way, I love the matte finish...I would try to start with a finer grit sand paper, but 240 was all I had.

um....did I hear Carbon Fiber Native? Oh baby =p......

If we were to make a CF run of Militarys, we would make them matte. We use Scotch Brite belts or bead blast. masks, evac, etc. bad sh*t to get in your lungs.

ANy time you're working with one of the synthetic handle materials(CF, G10, Micarta, even some stabilized woods, depending on the resin), you should be using a good respirator, clean up all dust afterwards, and change clothes afterwards too(shower wouldn't hurt either). It is all nasty stuff you don't want in your lungs.
