Anybody know of some sources for the old style matches with the tip was white, easy to light?

don't seem to sell them here.In fact I haven't seen them for years now.Maybe I'll have to look a little harder.

I ordered some through a large grocery chain here in Florida. I just caled their head quaters and they sent them to my local stores. I got a call about a week later and they were at the store. I bought a few boxes and the store sold the remainder on the shelf. You may want to try that at a smoke shop or maybew even Walmart.

thanks for the replies.I'll look at hardware and smoke shops or having them ordered.thanks

If You live near a Rural King Farm Hardware store, they are a regular stocked item there.

The blue ones, not the red ones.

The reason so few stores stock them anymore, is that UPS refuses to ship them. Or that's what one distributor told me???

Alot of stores will not carry "Strike Anywhere" matches anymore because of the shipping problems and the fact that they are not childproof. Stores see them as a hazard and a liability. I think someone was trying to get them banned altogeter.

My local grocery store had them a few years back for $3.00 a box or something like that, unfortunately they won't carry them anymore.

I've seen boxes sell at gunshows for upwards of $10.00 a box!

I have also heard that ACE hardware will special order them for you.

Charles Bronson 1921-2003 You'll be missed...

I'm pretty sure you can find some of the life boat strike anywheres online... Not a clue as to shipping!

I just keep a book of diamonds in my wallet... got a thousand or something for 3 bucks at the grocery store... BBQ section :D

I found them by lucky accident at a food store, Stater Bros. The female with me couldn't understand why I was so excited to find them!

Well after no luck,I decided to just order the Nato lifeboat matches on-line.They come waterproofed and in a waterproof container.Sad,that a person has to jump through hoops to get some matches that work decent.:barf:

I finally was able to locate a source nearby my residence. They weren't even with the regular matches. They were in the opposite side of the hardware store from the safety matches and hidden on a bottom shelf in back.I only found out about them from asking if I could special order them. They are Diamond brand large kitchen strike anywhere matches I remember as a kid,red with white tips.Best of all they were only .99 cents a box of 250 matches.:p
Thanks for the help guys!

The NATO and the Lifeboat waterproof matches I've had are NOT strike-anywhere. They have to be struck on the strip provided or something similar.

Strike anywheres are neat to have, but they are actually more susceptable to getting "stale" than regular matches. The heads absorb moisture from the air and become non-inflammable. The striking tips are more hydroscopic (is that the right word?) so that part goes first.

The reason you don't find them in NY is because by letter of law, they are illegal in the state. The closest place to find them is in NJ. I get mine at Harry's Army Navy store in NJ all the way down near Great Adventure.

Could you coat the tips with nail polish or clear coat automotive/arts paint? Might help seal the tip!

Yesterday I was in our local supermarket and saw a three pack of the stike anywhere matches, for $2.49,they are like the old ohio blue tips pretty cool!Seems there making a come back!
