I'm making a couple sheaths for a Tramontina Bolo Matchete. The first sheath is for a friend and the second sheath will be for mine. It's almost finished, just need to drill holes for stitching, stitch it up, finish the edges and attach the snaps for the retaining strap. I used Tandy's Gel Antique in Saddle tan for the color. This is the biggest sheath I've ever made!

The second sheath is just cut out. Am thinking of using some Chocolate brown Antique stain on it. Just ordered more stain today and it should be here Tuesday or Wednesday.

I've included some pictures of the first sheath. Hope to have this sheath done tonight or tomorrow night. Will post more pictures later. Whatcha think?

I forgot to attach the pictures to my first post so here they are. :foot:

That gel antique looks good on big sheaths! I was wondering how it would perform on large areas. The biggest piece I've tried it on was for a 9" knife. Good to see how well it does vs. the older water based antique, much less splotching. :D

Your work is getting cleaner, well done. :)

Leatherman, Your help a guadence years ago has really payed off. Thanks a bunch!! If I cut out all the pieces and stain them before fitting and think about everything before I fit it, it goes to better much nicer. Takes longer but looks soo much better. Listening to the more experienced leather benders really pays off.

The Gel Antique seems to work pretty well, better then I thought it would. Specially if you apply 2 or 3 coats. I still like the stains and will probably keep using them for different results.

Thanks guys! Paul, I sent you the email with the information. Please let me know how I can help you further. :) Your name is on the next sheath if you want it.

I'm planning to do something cool involving Matchete sheaths and I'm just waiting to hear back from the Mods on the best way to do it. Will keep everyone posted. And I'll try to get some more pictures posted soon.

-Paul, it's yours!-

Very nicely done...!!

Thanks for the pics!

Thanks River-8, you do some nice work too!

Was able to finish the sheath today. Had a problem getting the back side stitching even :o (Rather uneven) :o but aside from that I think it turned out pretty well. What do you all think? I'm working on a few more Matchete sheaths and those shouldn't have the uneven back side. Please let me know whatcha all think. Thanks again for looking!
