So the holidays are approaching and I was considering getting my father and I matching knifes with father and son engraved on the knife. He's not much of a knife guy and carries a kershaw I gave him As a gift 10 years ago but he is an outdoors guy. Any thoughts? Has anybody else tried this? I am looking for recommendations fixed and folding. What would you give or like to receive? esee 3? Dpx hest? paramilitary?

Thanks

JM

Really awesome gesture on your part. My father is pretty conservative and not much in to knives. I gave him a Kershaw Composite leek and he has never stopped carrying it. I would suggest something classy that he can carry everywhere and show off to everyone!

Very nice of you.. How much do you want to spend? An easy and classic solution would be to order a Buck 110, 112, 501, 503, or 505 from the custom shop on their website. You can actually type in your engraving and see how it looks.. pretty cool. the Esee 3 is a good choice for a small fixed blade. Maybe the Izula? I don't think the Hest is as beastly as they claim but for your pop who isn't a blade junkie he will like it. Paramilitary is awesome as you well know but has a very very fine tip (sometimes non knife addicts require a chunkier tip if they use it for things they shouldn't)

Not to be a one upper but I got my Dad a small Sebenza insingo for his retirement gift. Never had it ingraved though.

Otherwise get decent budget blade with a stainless steel handle and take it to and engraving shop. The Kershaw Cryo 1 or 2 is a cool assisted flipper for $30. Here's a leek

How much you looking to spend is a biggie. CRK does engraving, father and son 21's.

Some of the SAK's have a panel for engraving, and you can always get matching colors even if you get different models. Worth a look if you're on a budget...

Is that $100 for each knife? For that you can go to the Buck Knives Custom Shop and as long as you choose wood for the scales you can stay in that range and still get an S30V blade. You can get the 420HC and stag or something and stay in your range. Either way, you can have your names engraved on them.
Another option is to go to Knifeworks.com as they do a great job of engraving the blades or bolsters with names on any of your purchases. In that case, the door is wide open to choices, such as a Spyderco G10 Dragonfly, Kershaw Leek, Scallion, or Shallot. You can get a Spyderco Chaparral Carbon fiber for about $100 and have it engraved, too. Lots of choices.

I second the SAK idea since they are so useful. If he isn't really a knife guy I wouldn't go fixed blade.

This is of course a very personal opinion.I buy the Victorinox alox Farmer for all my Nephews for graduation gifts and have their name engraved on the blade from knifeworks. I make a paracord lanyard for the knife then gift wrap and mail it off.
