Matching Sets.....?

I want to know your opinions on a matching set of knives. Would you be willing to buy a 3-knife set of knives?

I am entertaining the idea of offering a set of 3 tactical knives of the same basic design. The differences being:

1 - A fixed-blade fighter
2 - A neck knife version of the fighter
3 - A folding version of the fighter

I want to know what kind of interest there would be, if any.

Well I think the idea is a good one, but I wonder how many people are going to want all three. You know how it goes, if they like fixed blades usually they don't like folders, etc. Also this set more then likely is going to be costly. Are people going to be willing to pay your price for this set? Usually collector's do not collect "Tactical" knives, so that may hurt you as far as collector's go. I think a small (numbered) quantity might do great. I am very interested in hearing opinions from others. Great thread!

Well I try to shy away from the set's thing
my self ,I built a set of Miniatures awhile back they were the five most popular blade styles there was a Bowie,an Arkansas Toothpick, with stag then a Jap.style Tanto ,and a Rifleman's Knife with horn Handle's and an Ivory handle Bolo ,I offerd the set for 400.00 and carried it for 6 mo.and finly just sold them individualy for 75.00 ea. and I know several Mini Collector's
they all said they just didn't want a set .

I am Opposed to Millionair's but it would be Dangerous to Offer Me The Job,Mark Twain

Barry,

I have a Tung Pan set by Allen Elishewitz and Bud Nealy. I placed it on my table at a couple of shows, and everybody wanted to buy either the fixed blade or the folder. I wouldnt seperate them, and still have them.(I'm not disappointed that they didn't sell!) But individually, I could have sold them dozens of times. I you offer a series and not a collection, that may work better. I've been playing with this idea with my fixed blades, (offering different sizes) and it seems to have appeal. Check with Allen and Bud to see how they made out. Whatever you decide, I'm sure they'll be nice pieces.

Hi all,
My perspective as a small time personal buyer/collector, is that if you appreciate the Knife Makers' style and results, what could be nicer than a matched set of his work? I am not sure I would embrace a "three piece" set as QUICKLY as a "two piece" set, just due to liking round numbers. However, if I saw a multi-knife set and liked them all, I would prefer that to similar quality but unrelated knives. As much as I hate to admit it, I think it can be compared to Women's "accessorizing", and matching Shoes to Belts to Handbags. If you like one, more of the same is even better.
Jens Anso is in the process of making me a semi-matched set of Damasteel/Mammoth/Fileworked fixed blades, one a "Sheeps Foot" and the other an "extended Sheeps Foot". I like his work, and to me, a matched set will always be more enjoyable than the "sum of it's parts".
Regards,
Brian

Thanks Guys!
I will "play" around with this and see where it (the buying public) takes me.
