okay somewhat stupid/newbie question. i'm gunna be building myself a grinder sometime around the new year and i was wondering what steel i should use. my initial thought was 0-1 but only because it's relatively inexpensive, pretty tough, and readily available. any thoughts/suggestions? the idea is inexpensive yet durable.

i dont see a need to use O1 to build the grinder but then again i havent done anything like that before
save that O1 for knives thats my .02

I agree with Butch, plain mild steel should work fine for that, O1 is overkill. I've even seen the frame made from wood before.

O-1 ??? No just use structural steel. Typically use angle but use something fairly thick and firmly fasten by welding .Make it very rigid.

ok well that's good news lol. i'm basing my design off of the KMG, so i want to use something pretty doggone think...most of it'll probably be 0.5" thick. where would i get stock this size...?

Since it's just a 1 time project you can get it from Lowes or Home Depot. If you start building alot of stuff from it you'd probably want to order from one of the big steel suppliers to save some money.
