Can anyone out there please help me with some ideas on metals that I can use for making knives?i am brand new @ this & just need a little input & help.

My advice is not to jump in right away because you will just make mistakes.Read all that bladeforums has to offer. And then read some more. And when you feel your ready, a good beginner steel is 1084 because its easy to heat treat with minimal equipment.

Try and find a local maker close to you and go visit him/her for advice.
Metals? Well, that depends on what you want to make and will it suite your designs.
Here is a good place to start IMO. then, READ A LOT! There is a lot of ground to cover from grinding, fit and finishing, sourcing materials to a basic understanding of metallurgy.
