Hi folks, especially the RAT team.
A question, Does RAT use materials from other country?
If not means that there won't be any knife made from ATS 34 or VG 10, is it right?

Thanks in advance

RAT Cutlery knives are made in America with American materials afaik. The only steel they currently use is 1095. If they plan on using any other steel it'd probably be for the folder they plan on making down the road. I would assume it would be made with American steel.

Thats what I like about RAT.

As long as it comes from a place where the people are treated well I dont care too much. I personally find the Japanese steels to be good for example.

I think part of the charm of buying American is similar to the feeling I get shopping with local people. By keeping my money in the community, supporting my neighbors who own and operate local businesses, I see my money reflected in the area I live, instead of watching vacant storefronts and dejected jobseekers.

No, it isn't always a direct and noticeable relationship, but the principle is good. I don't want to denigrate people or products made elsewhere, but why not support personal friends when I can? When a "local" company like RAT also make super reliable products, the choice is easy.

With all that said, we have some deals working on some soft goods that will be made in Colombia. Very high quality work though. Mike and I will probably go back down to Bogota after SHOT to finalize some things.

Being US made is certainly a bonus. Everything else being equal, I too favor US made goods. However, first and foremost I want a good quality product at a competitive price, regardless of country of origin. That's what I like about RAT.

I agree. I like Usa goods but if the other places come from an area where the workers are treated fair with a fair wage ect I have no problem. I buy Rat because it's USA. But if there make something out of South America and it helps the economy for the ppl and has quality I don't care. But I would still like to se stuff made here also. JMO

Maybe it comes from being a union man but i really try to buy only made in the USA goods and preferably Union made goods. Sometimes i can't help but buy imported good then i try to reason the treatment of the workers in the said area. Like with cordless drill i favor Bosch depending on the model due to them being Swiss made instead of China like most other cordless drills. Maxpedition makes quality products but i have a hard time buying them due to where they are made.

I cannot expect people to pay me a higher wage due to me being union if i am not willing to spend extra money to insure it is made in the USA.

Exactly. In addition, IF you are going to buy overseas product try to make sure that it is 'fair trade", which ensures that the workers making it are paid a fair wage. In the case of food items (coffee for example) it also almost always means organic, and much higher quality (try some fair trade coffee..you'll see). (My fiancee works for a fair trade organization and i volunteer my time often).
FREE Trade means much the opposite of "Fair trade", and we have lost a ton of jobs overseas to countries that do not in any way take care of their workers (China) so we can have cheaper goods (WalMart). Funny how the FREE trade side of capitalism now has us OWING 800billion dollars to China. Basically they are propping our economy up with loans right now... with money we gave them, instead of paying our own workers a fair wage in this country, working a little harder, and keeping our economy healthy.
I could go on forever about that one there.

I bought a Rat knife cause its American made. Period. If it wasn't, I wouldn't buy it. Period. It would take a lot to convince me that a worker in another country would be paid fairly and make as good a product. Plus, there are plenty of small, independent American makers.

I am willing to pay more money for American made... all day, every day.

We all need to burn that one into our brains.

Yup Union Ironworker. I buy Union,Usa will buy Japanese ,European from fair wage countries. I will buy from Colombia if it helps bring ppl fair paying jobs. China ect i try not to buy if theres a choice. JMO

I always try my best to buy products and food made here in America, and I always try my best to avoid products and food made in china, mexico and any other sketchy nation.

RAT knives being made here is a huge part of why I own four of them.
