I like to add....

new slippies to my collection. I am looking to add something new to the EDC repertoire and am looking for a little push. I am a fan of 5-6 pulls and warnie/sheepsfoot blades and have decided that ebony will be the poison on the next one and the only one I have had went to my father. So what do you suggest? The blade shapes probably don't play that much of a factor in my decision but is a plus. Pull and handle material are the main things I am looking for in the new addition. Size is not a problem but I would love to find something in the 3 5/8'' range but if its bigger and has a better feel I am in. Let me know what you think.

HAKnPocket, my recommendation may be premature [mine arrives tomorrow] but the new #66 Calf Roper from GEC sounds like it would fit your bill. 3.5", it has standard Stockman blades so your sheepsfoot is there and it is available in ebony. Pull is consistently good in my experience.

I have been selecting ebony as a handle material on my GECs lately and it seems to be getting progressively darker by the offering. Good luck making your selection.

I normally hate these threads but I am at a loss. I would love to have one of the conductors but they seem a bit small. As for the calf roper... I just don't care for spey blades all that much. I love the pattern and have many but I just can't find much use for the blade. I was thinking it may be the ticket though but I wanted to see what you guys would suggest. Thanks for the response and suggestion.

This may be premature as they are not out yet but perhaps one of the Ebony Schatt & Morgan Heritage series knives?

Oh, and GEC is coming out with the Courthouse Whittler in Ebony (I probably should have led with this one:o) 3 3/4" closed based on the #62 Easy Pocket Congress frame. I believe those were about a 5 or 6.

Search complete. 2Dead wins with the Courthouse Whittler. Just looked it up and I like it. Funny how these things work out. I know I said I want ebony but will they be doing this one in Yellow Rose? I like the GEC yellow rose a lot. IF not oh well ebony here I come. But keep the ideas coming guys.

Not sure if yellow rose will be one, its not on the semi-official list

I like the spear blade but am looking for something a bit more pointy this time. I thought about the dogleg but I think the serpentine would be more to my liking.

I'm interested in this new Courthouse Whittler too, could be a really useful 3 blade knife and something different with good handle choices as usual. Might be the one you are looking for.

Mind you, when I first read about it I'd had a glass or two of wine...thought it said Outhouse Whittler:D er...

Here's a pic of the ebony. I don't think there was a regular #62 in ebony but there are other materials still available.

Now off to find one, but it looks like a few need to go before I pull the trigger. Time to see what I can live without.

I would take the S&M design before I would even consider the Wharncliffe master blade option. Wharncliffes are nice but not as a everyday master blade. I know there are of lot of folks here in this particular forum that like the looks of them, as I do as well, but they are very limited as far as usefulness is concerned. I am sure Sir Wharncliffe, from which the design is named, rolls over in his grave when he hears the term "Wharnie". But, it is what it is in this particular spot.

Totally agree, Greg. I like 'em as secondary blades but only have one knife where it's the master and it doesn't get any pocket time. Different strokes...

+2 for Greg. A slender clip is my favorite blade, with a spear the next most useful for a main. I do find a Wharncliffe, sheepfoot or coping a useful secondary.

Good points and well taken. I am a fan of the Wharncliffe blade even as a main blade. I am not that picky as long as it cuts and I dig the point for digging stuff out or my hands. My dream would be one of the 2009 BF Barlows, but alas I was not around when they came up. That is the best of both worlds if you ask me and at first I abhorred the Barlow pattern. My DB Small Barlow won me over and did it quick. The Courthouse Whittler seems like a great pattern to accompany my SAK Farmer. Now if the Conductor had a secondary straight edge instead of the pen I would be all in. Oh well the search goes on and if anything I will pick up a CH Whittler and something else down the road. Thanks for the suggestions guys I really appreciate it.

PM sent.

I wonder how the Earl of Sandwich feels about that hoagie I ate yesterday
-just kidding, of course.

Seems you have a clear vision of what you want HAKnPocket; going with the wharnie/sheepsfoot will most likely bring you plenty of enjoyment. I always go to the sheepsfoot first so I'm considering a knife with that blade shape as a main as well.
Courthouse Whittler looks good -congrats on your choice :D
