Recommendation? Mating a Maxpedition Falcon II to Something Else (not Versipack)?

I was thinking of buying a Versipack as a general "away" pack, and I really like the idea of mating it to a buttpack with hiking gear, so I can have everything, just go on a little hike, or just my work/"away" stuff.

But I don't really like the reviews I've read about the Proteus Versipack.

I was wondering if anyone has had good successes mating any other packs to the Falcon II and - this is the important part - doing so in such a way that the extra pack provides a bigger hip belt for the Falcon than the one it comes with (which is crap, and cuts you off mid-stomach).
