hello Sal,

I am the proud owner of several spyderco models which just seem to accumulate around my place ;)

I recently got a Matriarch with the very tip snapped off, which I didn't realize at first. I didn't use it in any way, not even in the intended way.

After examination it seems that the tip broke off because of a manufacturing error. The protrusion at the base of the edge which would normally keep the edge from making contact with the inside of the knife is nearly non-existent.

That's why the tip obviously made contact with the inside of the handle (little pricks mark the place on the inside of the knife) causing the tip to break off.

I could surely send it in for sharpening to restore the tip, but I fear the strong spring of the locking mechanism would just break it off once more. So sharpening is not a very good idea since I would end up with a shortened blade or a thicker tip. Call me picky but I would be dissatisfied with either option.

Hello Ookami

For a problem like this, just contact Spyderco directly.

It'll be your best bet and Spyderco's customer service is great.

Best regards,

My matriarch has too the tip broken, but I have bought it at a friend. And he used to use the matriarch for self defense, (he is instructor), I think the tip was brocken during one training, but i've seen mark on the handle were the tip normaly stay when the knife is close.

The matriarch is a safe queen for me and the tip broke don't transform the wondefull design of matriach. That is not a problem for me.

I think as pageophile that if you want to rebuilt the tip, you would have to ask directly to spyderco's customer service.
