Just picked up one of these... at last!

Well I noticed the warning about it not being a utility blade, question is though, what happens if the tip breaks? Is it tough luck? I know this is not a 'normal' knife and it has a very specific use.

BTW, this was sold in the UK! :D

The dealer had refused to sell that particular knife to quite a few people as well. I was told, that he would only sell it to a collector and not a person who would use it and get him in trouble... Sounds corny, but I believe him.

You tip won't break if you don't use the knife for utility. Now, if the tip breaks while the knife is being used for its intended purpose well, you've still got lots of jagged Spyderedge to use, not to mention bigger problems...

But more realistically your Matriarch tip will get broken while you are playing around with the knife. (Drunk, at 3:30 in the morning, like yours truly the idiot...) I was cutting air and contacted steel door instead. A small piece of the tip broke off, leaving a definite squared appearance, but I expected far worse damage.

Anyway, once sober I simply ground the spine down a little with a Dremel until the tip was pointy again, and then finished it up with a gray ceramic stick from the Sharpmaker. It really looks just fine, and one would need to compare it against a mint one in order to see that mine has been altered.

Paul.
