Matriarch w/G10 scales?

I've been looking at various hawkbill blades lately, and really like the Matriarch. I've seen a few listed in auctions and "For Sale" ads that indicate they have G10 scales ("handles"). Several vendors have now told me that the G10 scales are only available on the Civilian. Is this the case? Can I get a Matriarch with G10, or do I have to pay > twice the price and cough up for a Civvie?

The Matriarch has frn scales; they did make a G-10 handled Harpy (no longer in production). You might want to try one to see how you like the frn; Spyderco's isn't bad (I have a Goddard lightweight) feels a lot better than some other manufacturers' frn handles.

Rather than create a new thread I thought I'd reuse this one for a similar question.

1SKS has the Matriarch listed for $49. Does anyone here know if this the current model Matriarch? The one that other vendors are selling for $75-90? Why is it so much less at 1SKS? Even the auctions are more expensive, so I'm concerned.

I have written 1SKS about this, but have not yet gotten a response.

Hi PG,

The Matriarch is, for all intents and purposes, the FRN Civilian. It even shares the same Clipit # with the Civilian. It is safe to say that the Civilian will remain the only G10 Matriarch.
 
Yeah, I managed to figure that out. :)

How about the 1SKS price thing? Any comments on that? I just want to make sure it's the same model everyone else is selling, and not an older/discontinued one with a molded clip or something.

The civilian is slightly larger than the matriarch... ;)

Hi PG,

The only design difference you'll find for the oldest Matriarchs vs. recent ones is the lack of a Boye indent in the lock lever, and the very latest ones which will have VG-10.

Early on the price for Matriarchs was much lower, a $75 MSRP and a street price around $60. The MSRP now is $90, and nobody seems to be discounting. No explanation for a $49 price, unless it is a clearance item.

Hmmm...Ya know Sam, I better take of these shades and put on my glasses. :cool:
 
WOW!! VG-10 blades?? That is very interesting. I'll be looking for that to come out.
