Keith's rehandle thread made me think I should share my Matt Lamey fighter tale. One of the best thing I have encountered through my experiences communicating with custom makers, whether through an order or just a purchase, is how willing they are to make their clients happy, and keep their products in top shape.

I purchased this fighter on the exchange before I knew Matt very well. After placing a bowie order with him, I mentioned this fighter and sent Matt an image to get some information of its age and steel. He figured it was made in 1998 or so, and was probably 1095 steel. He also ask if I would like to have it cleaned up. Before shipping to have this done, he ask about a little reshape of the handle, guard, and I sent him a little money for his time to do so, plus shipping.

When Matt radiused the palm swell and crow's beak, he wasn't happy with the overall look, and actually felt the top line of the handle might be a little low now. He said if I would give him some time, he would just put a new guard/handle on my fighter. Long story, short, Matt reworked the blade, brought the 'hidden' temperline out (which has an awesome smoky effect, and is definately 1095), and placed a new guard/curly maple handle on at no additional charge. Matt sent these images before returning to me:

I appreciate Matt's willingness to make this customer happy by 'touching up' his decade-old fighter! Thanks, Matt.

That is SO cool!

What Garssonizing is REALLY about(I guess it would be Lameyizing in this case, lol)

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

that was an awfully nice thing to do:thumbup:. And you've returned the favour by giving Matt props here, which is also really great.

very nice. I really like the hammon he brought out. That is customer service for sure!

Now THAT is the kind of customer service that make Custom Knives what they are.

Outstanding

(And I REALLY like the new version, very very clean)

Ditto all of that. Thanks for sharing the story and the before / after pics. Most excellent.

There is activity from the end of the line (mid-clip) toward the tip that doesn't show up well in Matt's images. Pretty cool activity for not being clay treated.

I like the single pin and all that juice in the blade revs things up.
Very cool fighter, Joe.
Great work, Matt.

I think the new one has a MUCH better aesthetic flow. And its a killer knife now to me. This last picture shows one of my favorite blade shape.
