Just got this one and I am really pleased. Its Massive but still light in the hand go figure?

What is the handle material?
Is it really textured (lumpy) or just the camera/light playing tricks?

that's a keeper! Envy, up here in the north.

Highly Figured quilted maple ....Where is Matt? makes a dandy

Matt is getting better all the time. Even if he is an attorney

Lol! :D

That quilted maple is even nicer in person than any photo I have seen of it presents. The light gets right down in the wood and just dances. I hope we see more of Matt's knives - he's doing fine work, of which this piece is a very good example.

It does look like there are scallops dished out of the handle doesn't it? But no its as smooth as a babies butt. This knife is funny in that the blade is massive but do I assume to the taper out to the tip it feels feather light in the hand. It makes other really large knives I have from other popular companys/makers feel pretty clunky in comparison.

I have no idea how this feel will translate into cutting performance. yet...:D

I think that maple came from a section I sent to Matt to use for Roger in exchange for first dibs on a piece in Roger's collection. If it is, then that maple has chatoyance like you wouldn't believe.

Thanks for the great pics Jim!

Everyone loves to make fun of an attorney...;)

David's right, the handle is some quilted maple he sent me. Really cool stuff.

Riad, I just opened my new shop/office. I finished setting up my BigBlu this weekend. I'll post some photos of my new knives (I've got a cool frame lock in forged 3v that I'm working on now).

this knife deserves another look!

I am 100% jealous! I cannot get Matt to call me back or have our schedules line up:eek:

Keith, at first I thought you were nuts but then I gave it a second look. I see the hair now!

I missed this the first time around - outstanding - and it looks like you could fall into that maple.

I absolutely love that knife. If I remember correctly, didn't the maker post a photo of it when he finished it? I seem to remember seeing it then (or maybe that was this thread a while ago?)

Was that a 10 or 11' blade? I would love to see some shots with sheaths. I would find it hard not to go chop some stuff up with that one. With that wide blade and big comfy handle I bet it would chop like butter.
