Hi all.
i recently purchased a knife from Matt Tackett (tackett13 on BF). he called it "a random drop point" design.

Matt is a part-time maker that is apprenticing with Chris Bowden of KFU Knives. The Backwoods and KFU forum can be found here....

i will start with a pic of the subject (apologies in advance for crappy phone pics).
For just some "random" knife...boy...i liked it, right out of the box. i have been meaning to do a review, but i really wanted a chance to use this knife. well...today, i got that chance.
there's work to do.
my buddy pinged me yesterday to let me know that he was back from his Ohio hunting trip and asked if i wanted to come down to help him process a couple deer. i used Matt's knife to process 2 deer...a buck and a doe.
i actually started skinning with another knife and quickly moved to this one. it has a good tip. and, it is super-sharp. it worked great for the skinning.
one thing i like about this knife is that matt tapered the tang on it. there was no shortage of meat to cut up, and this knife worked great. this knife also took a keen edge, and held if fairly well through the process. i was certainly not sharpening any more than anyone else.
tapered tang.
most knives i receive, i need to touch up the handle to fit my hand. now, that doesn't really have anything to do with a knife-maker's talents...but this knife fit my hand perfect, right out of the box. perfect contours. perfect sized handle.
and, she's a looker too. with the green micarta bolsters on top of mirindiba. i had it laying on the table and a couple of the old timers picked it up (my buddy's dad and uncle). they started with the "wow's" and "hey, what is this handle made of." "it looks like a great knife." i couldn't have been more pleased. i'm the new guy.
they had a great setup for processing. even had one of those industrial grinders.
it was a long day, but Matt Tackett's knife really served me well. this knife may be the knife i have been looking for. as of right now, i consider this my go-to hunting knife. i should probably make a sheath for it.
and, after a long day, it was even able to help me with dinner.
thanks for the great knife Matt.
