I have a BHK bushcraft I'm thinking of sanding , but was wondering if any of you guys have pics of a polished micarta handle that you have sanded to create more of a matte finish.
I'd like to see some examples before I attack a $140 knife with sandpaper. Some grit ideas would help also.

Thanks for any help.:)

( did a search but didn't find too much)

Well, I'm not sure how much it will help you in this case, but I know that Bark River knives with the polished Micarta scales can frequently be made more matte and 'grippy' by scrubbing them thoroughly with dish detergent and water. As I understand, micarta is commonly polished with a buffer, and usually has at least some amount of wax involved in the buffing process. The detergent breaks up the wax and stands up the fibres again.

Hey , Thanks for the reply.

I took a scotch-brite pad and dish soap and gave it a good scrubbing. It helps , but the finish is still pretty smooth. I'm not saying that I'm really unhappy with it , but just want to see if anyone has sanded their micarta handles and how they turned out.
