Ooops, I misspelled Mr. Mattis' name in the subject heading. There's no way to edit those, is there?

Anyway...

While doing a search for a Wegner pic, I was saddened to see that all of James Mattis' wonderful scans now appear only as broken links on this forum. Did anyone happen to save some of these images on their hard drive?

Guyon, I have many of them but the only Wegner scan I have is the Mouse. If there are any you (or anybody else) wants I could email them.

I sure do miss James

Thank Clay, but I was looking for a different one.

James did a scan of several Wegners (along with a Pro-Venator I think). It was that pic in particular that made me ask him just how he got his scans so sharp. As many of you know, James enjoyed making these images and would quickly share his "secrets" of scanning success. I still haven't been able to produce as nice a scan as he did though...

I found that thread ( http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum52/HTML/000636.html ) and in it, Nemo (from Paris) mentions that he was collecting James' images. I'll send Nemo an email.

Yes, I remember the scan. It is one of the few I didn't save. I hope Nemo has it.

This brings up an idea I've been nursing quietly. I didn't want to say anything until a "decent interval" had passed. I didn't know James personally. I only knew him by his posts on BF and by visiting his wonderful website, chaicutlery.com. I sent many newbies off to that website with instructions to "read and learn." Even _if_ his wife is planning to get chaicutlery back on line and working, it won't be the same. It will lose the "personal touch" that was James. Anyway, here's what I would like to see happen.

I would like Mrs. Mattis to have a computer person copy the whole chaicutlery.com website to one CD/ROM. Everything working, all the links, all the pictures. No changes. Just the way it was before James died. Then they could use a CD burner to make copies for people. Surely they would be able to sell copies of the website for $20-30. It seems like a good way to raise money and for those of us who didn't know him to get back in contact with his life's work. It really seems like a total waste for all his writing and photos to just disappear. Please let us buy it!

Two sources sent me the scan I was looking for. Thanks to both.

Gregg, your point is well taken. There are a lot of us who miss James and his chaicutlery site. When I wanted a good picture or description of a knife, it's the first place I went.
