Just received my copy of the 2001 edition of Blade Trade and Cutlery Retailer. For those who may not be familiar with this publication, it is put out by Krause Publications (the same folks who publish Blade). It is distributed to retailers, manufacturers, writers, and other knife industry people at the same time the SHOT Show is going on. They have a little paragraph about James Mattis in their People section of the news from the industry. Here it is, verbatim:
In spite of a few minor errors, this was very nicely written. It was really nice of them to include Mattis in this issue of the industry magazine. Those who have received a copy can find this on page 74.

James Mattis, owner of the Chai Cutlery retail store in Glendale, California, part-time knifemaker and active player in the Internet knife community, passed away this October.
Mattis promoted knife rights and was always on top of the latest in cutlery and knife legislation. In fact, he was a champion of the human condition in general, donating a percentage of each knife sale he made to the charity of the buyer's choice. He also served as monitor on the BladeForums Internet discussion group, and was held in high regard by many of those who participated therein.
