I have a regular coil mattress and inner-spring. Its coming up on 15 years old and I'm looking at some new ones. My former chiropracter recommendated a natural latex mattress, and lots of people like tempurpedic beds. I've also seen rave reviews (and equally bad ones) for the air mattresses (sleep number).

I'm looking for a king size and they are quite expensive. I've laid on the tempurpedic and the latex ones for a few minutes at a store and they feel fine but not necessarily better than anything else.

What do you have, what are the upsides and downsides?

I have an adjustable sleep number, and it is an amazing bed. I tried out the tempurpedic before I got the sleep number and it was too stiff. As you prob. know you can make the sleep number as soft or hard as you want.

If someone could tell me how to still get a double-sided mattress... that'd be great! Seems you can't flip the new ones anymore. What a racket.

I've been happy with my tempurpedic for a lot of years now. It's pretty plain-jane compared to some of the new ones they sell. I do remember it taking some time (a few nights) to get used to. At that time, they gave a 30 day free trial period, so it was risk free to see if you liked it. My wife likes it too- and you really don't feel the other person moving- except through the covers.

Check out IKEA. We got a high density foam mattress there for 1/4 the price at regular furniture stores.

Check out Verlo mattress store if there is one in your area, they make double-sided mattresses.

Foam mattresses have their disadvantages; they're too soft (I sink in too far, no matter how dense the foam), the're hot, and there's a learning curve to having sex on them (kind of like the old waterbeds). What I found works best for me is a firm regular mattress with a mattress pad that's 2" of high density foam and 1.5" of quilted cotton. It's very comfortable, not too hot, gives real support, and best of all, I can wash the mattress pad. Not cheap, but the best sleep I've ever had.

One last thing, if you plan on moving avoid the foam. They're a pain in the butt to move. It's better to leave it and get a new one.

SLEEPNUMBER !
Independently adjustable each side. Can apply positive lift to your back. All models share the exact same air chamber support structure.
cons:have to adjust it initially and as needed for changing conditions in your body.

I've read that the middle of the bed is unusable because its like two separate twin beds stuck together (for king size). Is that true?
