Well he started with a piece of 1/8 inch by 1 1/4 inch wide bar of the paper cutter steel I had in a pile.He shaped out a nice 5 inch Iron Mistress styled Bowie blade. He has had to reshape a couple of times so far,but so far as good as any begginner that has ever ground in my shop.I showed him what and how to do things and turned him loose. So far one side a decent flat and the other a nice convex :D but he will get it I believe,he is determined to I believe.
After 4 hours I do belive this smiley is in order LOL :footinmou and this one after Donna asked him if grinding was hard :o

I am just cutting up with him as he is doing fine, just needs practice (Heck my first wasn't even close to being good)..Can't wait to get his rear end out in the smithy to forge a blade...

I will let him on here when he takes a break.

He is now on blade number 2 :o the first one ended up with the cutting edge at about the same level as his tang,so he stuck it in the window and started on #2.

He is determined to get it,he wants to take the easy way out and make a convex grind instead of a flat grind with convex edge :D :D

I told him to go for it if he wants, but he is going to learn how to flat grind when he starts forging :D

I did ask him his question back and he told me to hush with a grin on his face.
we will see what tomorrow brings off the grinder for him.

I think he just might get this one.A full convex grind<he found out it wasn't that easy eather :D But we are about ready to heat treat I believe.
He is making some of the funniest faces when the blade gets to warm  :D He will learn.

Well I dont know about all that but I am determined to do it. I dont know if I'll be good enough to ever sell any but all i can do is work at it for now, but im gonna go heat treat my first blade!
