Hi looking at a Mauser Victorinox on a major auction site. Can't find much info on these except for the same blog over and over. Anyone have any personal experience with these ? It is advertised as used, with no case. Are they reliable, Or just an odd collector piece.
Thank you in advance

I know Jack Black has one he has carried for 30 years on his adventures, and I was fortunate to receive a nice gift from him similar to the Mauser the B & H German Army Knife very nice piece of gear solid. Maybe Jack will chime in.

I have one. Typical Victorinox quality. Two big blades. About the best saw ever put on a pocket knife. The saw has a cover if you are looking at it as a collector, It may be missing on a used one.

Absolutely great knife, but if you can forego the clip blade, a German Army Knife is probably better value at today's prices. Here a 20 year old review of my 30 year old knife :)

Thanks P, it's a very old piece. That is my hand, but before I got that particular scar! :D

Today I helped a friend to rescue his wifi connection and other small computing jobs. As a reward he gave me these two 11cm Mauser scout knives.
One is NOS, the other has seen very light use, but has lost his saw protection. They remained in their boxes for years and will need some tlc to be fully usable. Both made by Victorinox (# Bonpertuis French steel) and are 2cm larger than usual SAKs.
BTW, the blades are dull as I never seen! But also very easy to sharpen.

I have had one for thirty years or so. I think the box is still around here somewhere. I have carried a few times, not a lot.the Victorinox quality is definitely there. The saw is frightening. The cover for the blade was a good idea.

Yeah I remember having trouble getting hold of a Mauser. In the end I found a Vic GAK and was really pleased with it, carried it for ages. I think you'll still find them available (though they are no longer produced) and, as Jack mentioned, you should still get one at a reasonable price. They have a nice long spear point blade and a slim feel to them, something that may be compromised on the Mauser with the addition of another blade and, presumably, an extra spring. My second favourite Vic next to the Farmer. Must bring it back into use.

I've a MIL-TEC version thats barely seen the light of day for the past few years. Though I don't know whether it's an earlier German produced one or a later Chinese produced one.

There were many makers of the Germany Army Knife and they were all of comparitive quality, but I'm pretty sure Victorinox were the first and I think are now the most desirable. I think I'm right in saying that whilst MIL-TEC produced the model they never actually supplied the German army, but the quality level is very much the same as all the rest.

Aye this one seems fairly decent actually, I should use it more often. Off the top of my head I recall seeing ones by Aitor, CCM, Nieto? and one other that began with K but which escapes me. I haven't seen a genuine Mauser one for sale for well over 20 years now, and looking at Jolipapa's Mausers has me kicking myself all over again for not picking one up when I could of.

The federal knife may be a Klaas (Kissin Cranes)

There's one Mauser on sale (not mine) on a specialized site but you have to fork a few quids to get it!
