I'm sure plenty of you noticed in the Fiddleback Outpost newsletter, but for those of you who didn't, I wrote and article on the Maverick.

The guys at the Outpost were kind enough to send one for me to test out on my mule deer hunt last November. Then they were kind enough to gift it to me during the Fiddleback Secret Santa! Just my luck that they got me as their 'target'!

Initially I was pretty uninterested in the Maverick and the rest of the 'ergonomic line' as I call it, but after putting it through the paces field dressing my buck I've definitely come around to it. The handle is super comfortable, and I found the blade shape really useful for field dressing. Check out the article for more details, plus the story of our hunt!

Thanks man! It was a pretty awesome hunt. Hoping to put together the field dressing video with the Maverick here sometime soon.

Nice, With all this talk about the smaller sized knives, the Maverick sticks out as a special one for me.

Thanks Robert! I'm looking forward to putting the Mav to use again on a big critter this year! Not sure which one yet, I've got some other knives I want to test out in that role as well! :D

:thumbup: it's a pretty awesome design. I'd love to to a Drop Point Maverick through the paces.

I was a little rough on the Maverick, but the drop point Renegade is about the best feeling knife I've ever held. I'm sure a DPM would be a close second. The Maverick is practical for exactly what you used it for, but most of my food these days comes in plastic and my need to field dress a buffalo has gone the way of my youth...

Haha!! Come on over to Colorado, we can change that!

Man, what a great article. I'm so glad to see someone getting use out of the Maverick and finding it practical. I really appreciate you doing this.

Thanks Andy! The Maverick took some warming up to, but I really enjoyed using it on my buck last year. Like i said in the article, those backstraps practically fell out of the deer when they saw the Mav. :D

We all appreciate the fricken awesome knives you guys are making!

Great write-up Orion. The original Maverick was almost certainly designed with a hunter in mind. It is nice to see it being used as intended and performing well to boot.

I too was skeptical of the handle design when I first saw pictures of this family of models. After handling examples of both the original Maverick and later the drop point Maverick, I admitted that the handle design works well for me.

Thanks for posting this review. You are a gifted writer. I look forward to reading your next review.

Great read Orion! I enjoyed your article. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thank you! I enjoy writing about and filming my adventures so it's awesome to see that they're being enjoyed.

Phil, thank you for the kind words! I think a majority of people were a little surprised by that line of knives. More people need to give them some time in hand to get an idea of how comfortable they are. Looking forward to putting the Maverick to work again this fall!

Great read Orion. I was able to immediately drop myself into your shoes and see the scene through your eyes rather than reading the words off the screen. Well done and well documented.
