Hello everyone :) New to the Forums and have a question.
I just purchased a Para 2 in Maxamet and was wondering since it is not a Stainless Steel what I should do to protect it from rust. I have been told Renaissance Wax works well, but thought I would ask here and see what you guys prefer.
I live in Tennessee so not a salt water problem but I do work in some serious heat and sweat Hard so the Knife will get sweat on it.

Any information would be of great help to me.

Thank You

I haven't had a rust problem with maxamet but it will get a slight patina

Wipe the blade clean after use , if you don't want a patina , wipe the blade down with something to protect it

Congrats! I love this combo. I do nothing but wipe it down after every use. I am enjoying the natural patina im starting to get. Looks great with the stonewashed blade.

Lasher, I use my PM2 and Para 3 Maxamet knives. To prevent rust/patina, I personally use my wife’s hairdryer on high for 45 seconds per side, apply Frog Lube to both sides, and spread with a cue tip while hot and then let the blades sit for 45 minutes. Then I’ll wipe off any excess and reassemble the blade. I did this once a month for the first 4 months with each knife which seemed to help eliminate any patina on the knives. I’ve repeated the process if the knife has been subjected to extremely heavy use in wet/humid conditions. Here is an Amazon link to the frog lube: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00579HNK4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I still use regular KPL around the pivot for smooth action: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L38LMPG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I hope this helps.

I've used EDCI Solutions on Spydercos M4, Maxemet, K390 , 4V(Province), Cruwear, And 52100 with decent results. An experienced knife maker recommended food grade Mineral oil (local pharmacy) which also works well in my use!

Short answer: mineral oil when storing it for long time. Flitz if you dont like patina or it gets too sore on your eyes.

It WILL patina no matter what. For reference, I have never oiled mine and it hasn't rusted (cut steak and stuff with it too, just wash it and wipe it afterwards).

Long answer? There is no long answer, it's not hard to take care of :p

I also agree that there really isn't too much you have to do as it will patina naturally. If you use in wet conditions then dry it off and may use a light oil if needed. I use primarily carbon based Japanese kitchen knives that see the same treatment and also develop a nice natural patina over time.

I've always used Ballistol to clean, lubricate and protect my knives, firearms, equipment, etc. with great results. I have a ton of non stainless knives and every once in a while I spray it on the blades and wipe with a microfiber cloth and have never had rust or even patinas develop on anything. If I have to use my pocket knife for food (which is rarely), then I just wash it with soap and water first and apply Ballistol sometime again when I get a chance.

I use oil saturated 0000 steel to get tree sap off the blade. A few swipes on the grey Sharpmaker rods keeps the edge sharp enough for me.

No oil required for mine. Just use it, clean it, keep it sharp. Same for all my blades.

It’s not as rust prone as carbon steel but it will rust if exposed to moisture for time. There is some chromium, but it is not there for rust resistance, it’s there for hardenability.

I use my pocket knives for food all the time just because it gives me an excuse to use my knife. That said, I only wipe them down with mineral oil, and that's only when they need it due to prolonged moisture exposure. Mineral oil doesn't go rancid, is digestible in the event some gets on your food, and is more than adequate for protecting the steel. As for a patina, that's not a bad thing in my eyes.

I suggest treating your Maxamet like you would your rifle. After heavy use give it a cleaning and wipe it down with Breakfree CLP (cleans-lubricates-and protects from corrosion) or Rem Oil (a CLP product). You can store it for years in dry container without any rust or other corrosion. Either Breakfree or Rem Oil is widely available at any gun department or outdoor store and the cost is very reasonable.
