Hey guys. Up till now I've been carrying a 48oz Nalgene bottle in my Maxpedition 12X5 bottle holder. It was alright but I'm not a big fan of plastic as all you can do is drink out of it really. You can't cook in it or boil water. So Klean Kanteen (who makes maybe the nicest stainless steel bottles on the planet IMHO) recently came out with a 64oz bottle. So it was a no brainer for me as long as it fit in my bottle holder. Outer dimensions are 4.5" in diamtere which is about the 12X5's max since it's padded. I think something that was really 5" in diameter probably wouldn't squeeze in there without a fight. And if it did the outer pocket would be useless as it would be bowed out to the max. Anyway, the Nalgene bottle was taller than it was wide so it really used up the space in the maxpedition really poorly. This KK bottle is shorter but fater so it leaves you with about 4.5"X3" of space left to maybe store a tin with some goodies like water tabs, drink mix, tea bags, or instant coffee and creamer and sugar. So it really maximizes your room in a great way. The holder is of course bomb proof as is all of maxpeditions gear and it carries the KK bottle well. The bottle itself is also high quality and I can see me getting decades of good use out it. I usually carry two of these around in my vehicle filled with something like sugar free fruit punch or something tastey for when I go to the gym. So these are gonna be wonderful. The use the space more efficiently and hold 16 more ounces than then nalgene plus they're more verstile in the field. Can't say enough wonderful things about them. They make an excellent duo. With two I can carry a gallon of fluid with me. And believe it or not they're not that much heavier than the plastic bottles. If you can find some 12X5 maxpeds to mate with these, I suggest it. It's a wonderful combo. Only down side is that the bottle is LARGE in diameter. If you got small hands you may not be able to one hand these monsters. I wear XL to XXL gloves and they're almost a little hard to hold on to for me. So if you got small hands you might wanna step down and got with a 10X4 Maxpedition holder and the KK 40oz which is 3.5"X8.6" which would fit nicely with about an inch or so to spare.
