Anyone out there with experience with the Collossus? I'm looking to put together a bag to keep in the truck. My initial thoughts on contents are first aid items, survival items, water bottle, Rat knife, etc......... What caught my eye is it's bigger than a Jumbo and since it would be used for climbing and hiking the single shoulder strap carry should suffice.
Your feedback, ideas, suggestions & pics are greatly appreciated.

The collossus is a nice bag, but look at the new Maxpedition Mongo before you decide. It is bigger than the Jumbo, but is designed more like it. The Colossus can be a bit boxxy.

I own the collossus. It is a very nice bag, and lupa is right, it is a bit cumbersome at times. Although mine has the 10x4 bottle holder attached to it and some other stuff,
making it bigger adding to the boxiness. Don't get me wrong, I carry it every day to
work and back, again it is a great bag.

Thanks for the thoughts rev'man - I'm not looking to EDC it, just a grab-n-go or thrown in the truck with First Aid and survival items. But, we all know how the packing list grows once you start....................;)

I own a colossus. It's a great bag. But I bought it right before the Mongo came out. If you're looking for more room than a Jumbo I suggest the Mongo. The Colossus has more room than the Jumbo but not a ton more as it is padded and that takes up some space. I added some BTS Medical Pouches to the side of mine and now it has lots of space. But the bag as it comes is only a small improvement over my Jumbo. But I do like the ambidexterous shoulder strap. That's one thing about the Jumbo and I would guess Mongo that bothered me. It doesn't carry equally as well on either shoulder. So getting out of the truck with it can be interesting if not uncomfortable. My colossus rides equally well on both shoulders. So as of yet I haven't taken the jump into the Mongo. Not to mention the colossus holds more than is really comfortable on one shoulder. Any more weight and I'd want a back pack. That's something you should also consider. If you're gonna put 20 or 30lbs worth of stuff in it, you might want to look into the Vulture II backpack. I have that one as well and it's simply wonderful.

I juts found out about the Mongo yesterday. I'm considering the Type S in the near future. It seems similar in size to a Sabrecat sans the water bottle holder. I haven't compared the actual dimensions, but just looking at the pictures it reminds me alot of it.

Edit: the only bad thing about the name is I keep thinking "Mongo like beans!" I think they could have picked a better name, but I get a chuckle every time I think of it.

I keep thinking "Mongo like beans!"

My thought exactly!! :D
I giving it serious consideration............regardless of the name!

I've been carrying a Colossus for a while now. I think it's a vast improvement over the Fatboy I was carrying. One thing that is important to me is that I wanted something that is ambidextrous, and the Colossus is that. I agree with the others who said that it's a bit boxy, and it doesn't have as much room as I thought it would, but I like it better than the designs I've seen that aren't ambidextrous.

I've added pouches for a multi-tool, flashlight and cellphone. I use it primarly to carry things I need from the house to the car, where it sits most of the time. I like to travel light, so I just pocket a few items when I'm walking around and keep the rest in the Colossus in the car. It's perfect in that role.
