I can't seem to decide between the two colors. I'm trying to go for less of a tactical look. More sheeple friendly, but not sure which way to go. I'll probably use it when I travel to China, domestic commuting, and some outdoors later on like hikes and such. Not sure how the comfort would be for outdoors tho, I read a few mixed reviews here and there on the topic. I guess it depends on how much I load the thing up. If there are other brands I should consider, I'm all ears.

I think you'll get differing views. Lots of folks in drier climates seem to post that the college kids are carrying a lot of khaki now...(which may be very true)

My experience with Khaki is that I can set my ONE khaki bag down and see the Molle from 50 feet away. This complaint seems to be the most voiced...ie "I don't want Molle cause it's too tacticool looking".... I dont' know about that myself.

Personally I don't think others care about what you are carrrying HALF as much as you THINK they are.

Black is everywhere. Business enviroment - 99% black. Heavy travelers - mostly all black. East coast, bad weather, dirt, grime, etc...black is gonna look better longer. It's not a fashion statement in NYC to wear black...it's trying to make your clothes survive. :)

Black Molle disappears from 10 feet away in full daylight. 1/2 that in lesser lights. I like Molle bags to MOVE stuff to the outside IF i need the space...but I take a big enough bag that all I need to carry fits easily on the inside. In pouches that can mount outside IF needed. throw some clips in the bag...and you are prepared if you need it.

hope all this helps ya, but in the end...get what you like. Everyone else is really not looking at you....unless that pack is ALL you got on. :)

FMAKNut, solocanoe has a point. 5 or 10 years ago, everyone was screaming that you could not carry black bags because you looked "Tacticool" like a S.W.A.T. or H.R.T. group. Now, hell, I see exec.'s in the morning with black attache cases & backpacks, so what do I know. I have always had black bags because they just hide wear & tear better, plus if I leave a bag in the floorboard of my truck, it is harder to see than khaki or another color. I really think you just need to get what you like & will be satisfied with. . .
Be safe.

My school backpack is black and white and my overnight bag is black. I see nothing wrong with carrying a black bag, unless you too are dressed all in black. Then you start to look od IMO. So get what ever color you want.

Solocanoe/Just1mor/wildmanh- Great points! I didn't think at all about the molle strap visibility between the two. I'm probably pick up a black one when I find a good deal. Thanks!!

I have the black. Of course everything I wear is black so it is not a stretch for me. Though personally, I do not want people to think I am pretending to be a soldier and avoid OD and Tan colors. I'll just continue to look like a cross between Johnny Cash and a Ninja.

On a side note, my Maxpedition Kodiak is extremely well made and survived with very minor rubbing my motorcycle accident that sent me sliding twenty feet. A great product!

Wonder if that would be covered under Maxpedition's warranty ??:)
Glad you are ok ednemo, someone pull out in front of you or animal run across the road?? Had one of these a few years back, lady pulls out of her driveway, I'm doing about 35mph & could not get stopped, bike slides into her car door, I'm lying on the street, & she runs over and starts yelling at me for denting her car door while I am on the ground trying to get feeling into my legs. Hope yours was a small one.

That's why I got something other than black... I tend to lose things...
But the others comments are right on.. .Black in itself isn't "tacticool"... black blends in. that is until you start dangling things on the molle straps.
I got a khakis body and ranger green straps model because it seemed to hide wear marks more than just khakis, and blends in with what I wear/do in the woods (for camping and hiking). If I go out for bird photography, I don't want something big and black to stand out. (however that's not what you'll be doing).

You'll be fine with whatever you decide on. People really don't care as much as you think.

No, I was the victim of road work, construction company tore up a road, didn't bother with signs and I hit a 2 inch high ledge of road with the side of my wheel and went for a slide. No bad injuries but I have added some new protection to my riding gear now. I am a couple armor pieces away from looking like Boba Fett at this point.

Foliage Green or Khaki with Foliage trim. KF is super popular these days

I have an OD pygmy falcon and no one gives it a second look. A guy with a bag that's military is a guy shopping at surplus stores. A guy decked out in nothing but military gear is either crazy or an airsoft ninja. Or both.:D

That being said I'm off maxpedition backpacks. The pygmy is great for a bob bag but I've noticed in use it's not so great. Fits a little off and makes my back sweat in the summer. Looking real hard at Deuter or Osprey with the trampoline vent thingy.

I bought a khaki Malaga last year. I wish I'd bought it in black. I think it still looks good but the color makes it stand out a bit more than I'd like.
