I was searching for a smaller pack to hold just the essentials for school. Most of my professors do not require me to have my texts books in class so all I really need to carry is a 5 subject notebook, some pens and whatever I am reading at the moment. I ordered to OD green version because the khaki wasn't in stock when I called Maxpedition. It easily fits my large notebook and it would also fit a mid-size laptop. It is packed with small pockets so everything has a place. There is a very large area with holster attachment for concealed carry with room for a full size handgun and a couple of extra mags. I was not sure how many compartments it was going to have and I wanted a dedicated place to carry my cell phone so I also ordered an OD green triad admin pouch also. The Admin pouch is attached to the front of the pack via 2 small malice clips. It blends nicely and looks like it was made to be part of the pack. The pack is carried via a single strap the goes over the left shoulder down to the right hip. The is a smaller stabilizer strap that comes up from the lower left side. The stabilizer strap has a built in whistle in the buckle that is quite loud and I am sure it can be heard from a long distance, my wife was relatively unamused by the high pitch. The pack is pretty comfortable with just the primary strap but with the stabilizer strap it is very comfortable. The fall semester does not start until August 21rst so I haven't carried it but 3 or 4 times. I carried for a 12 mile bike ride the other day and it stayed right were it was supposed to the whole time. I am very impressed with this pack and the Admin pouch. Maxpedition makes very good products but this addition to the gearslinger series is very well designed. It would make a very good EDC pack or very minimalist day pack. There is plenty of attachment points for other gear and it keeps everything organized. The only bad thing is that the handgun pocket is not quick to reach while the pack is strapped to your back, so if concealed carry is your primary purpose probably better to stick with a versipak. I just stick with IWB holsters. The pack is an excellent small/medium pack.
