I am thinking of trading up from my Jumbo to a Mongo versipack. Any pros/cons? I will be using it as an EDC bag, I have an M1 and Barnacle to add on to it. I like the added size, and plan on carrying a larger sketchbook, and full size Nalgene bottle with it. Won't be using it for anything other than EDC. I have a Pygmy Falcon II for hiking.

The Mongo has a lot more room. Get one you won
t be disappointed.

I been lookin at one too. I bought the colossus and damnit if Maxpedition didn't come out with somehting bigger like two months later. My main concern is that as the bags get bigger do they become more and more unrealistic as a shoulder bag. My Colossus is already pretty heavy with the stuff I put in it. I person will eventually reach a point to where the amount of gear that the bag can carry would be better carried on both shoulders in the form of a backpack. Let us know what you think if you get one... I'm about 4 or 5 months away from investing in yet another bag of any kind.

I can easily pack my Jumbo to the point it is uncomfortable to carry on one shoulder for any length of time. There is a load point where you need to go to a back pack with 2 straps. I guess everyone has to find that point for themselves.--KV

I've had almost every one-strap MaxP bag they offer and you are correct. They are easily overloaded and become quite uncomfortable after a while.
I think a lightly packed Jumbo versipack is the best one strap bag for EDC.

I use mine for light dayhiking and I keep it basic. Either a standard Nalgene or a 48oz Nalgene, keys-wallet-phone in flap pocket, firekit in the GP pouch with a woods knife in the slip pocket behind that pouch which is perfect for this! In the main pouch is my camera, stove fuel can, SS Guyot, first-aid kit and stove. Any more and it starts digging into the shoulder pretty good. I took the shoulder pad of my MaxP Aggressor Attache' and it is MUCH better than the stock pad.
If I have any more to carry, I grab my North Face Recon pack instead.

This should help. Keep in mind the MilSpec guy is small in stature so the bags might look really big next to him.

I wished they would make the Mongo ambidexterous instead of one side specific. That was one thing that always bothered me about the regualr versapack and why I went to the colossus. It's nice being able to toss it over either shoulder and have it ride equally well.

The Mongo would be a good replacement for my Jumbo. I just need to be able to carry my rain shell and other tid bits.
