Maxpedition or Condor

Please forgive me if this is not the right forum for this question. I read through the post on the Condor-II pack from Maxpedition and called a dealer I met at the Tulsa Gun Show last month. I thought he carried Maxpedition but it turned out he carries Condor. I have read many good reviews about the Maxpedition products but not much about Condor. I would appreciate any feedback you have on the two brands.

Thanks,
Darin

Thanks mean,

I really like what I can see of the Junglas pack. Hopefully, it will hit the market soon.

Thanks,
Darin

Condor's stuff is less expensive and you can tell why, just feels cheaper. But if you're not using it a lot or not depending on it a ton then it's a way to save money.

The Condor nylon that I own I rarely use. The Maxped stuff I use all the time.

I have good experience with the Condor stuff it doesn't feel cheap or flimsy to me.

But maxped does have a respectable following, and is made here in the US you can't say the same for Condor its made elsewhere, the cost difference is huge when you are talking about packs.

Maxped is designed in the US but made in Taiwan, says so right on their products.

:D (as i think of the 80 bucks i saved)

I can't think of any more reasons to support the purchase of a more expensive product that does the same thing.

EDIT: I honestly thought i had heard from good folks that maxped was US made. sorry folks.

Thanks for the input.

What I have will work fine until March when we go visit the in-laws that live at the base of Superstition Mountain in Apache Junction, AZ. I was wanting to upgrade my day pack before that trip.

I really appreciate everyone's input.

Thanks,
Darin

This will step on some toes probably, but Condor is airsoft stuff. I'd not depend on it for "real" use.

Might want to wait on the RAT back pack before spending on a Maxped. Not that Maxped is bad, but the RAT guys tend to make stuff that works without adding a whole bunch of crap that doesn't just to have it there.

That's what I wanted to hear!

My son and I went out looking at MaxP packs last weekend. It was interesting to see them in person to get an idea of their actual size. Anyway, of the three or four pieces we looked at, two had broken zippers. That was disappointing in that you'd think a pack meant to take rough treatment on the trail failed to hold up on a store shelf.

I ordered an Eagle A-III for him on Monday and received it Wednesday. Great pack.

No problem with me, each person gets their own exposure. I don't airsoft so i don't know how "airsoft" quality equipment works. I will say some of those airsoft toys have sights that line up better than my first BB gun did years ago. :D just saying.

And for "real use"....real use? , I have really used my condor gear, hiked with it and all, even put a hydration bladder in it and drank from it. I think it even rained on it once (its SOCAL it doesn't rain here much not my fault) and i dropped it against a few rough stumps and rough patch of dirt once or twice to catch a rest. no torn seams, no displaced webbing, and the pack looks basically like it did before.

IMO the best gear is simple and tough as nails. But i'm also practical most times, and I don't live in a combat zone, so how tough does my bag need to be? Do i think its ideal? Not exactly. Think of a WWII duct canvas musette bag its COMBAT proven, and solid the likes of which synthetic fiber makers dream of. all those zippers, all those straps, all that load dependent on functional molle straps and clips, something is bound to fail , and the more stuff you have on your pack that you depend on other than the pack just being able to carry shit, your odds of getting by with those features get worse with the more features you add, its basic logic. But most folks in modern times don't have the backbone to carry old canvas bags with steel fittings around, they are too heavy and while they resist water when they get damn wet they are even worse. But I would bet my life on something of that simple heavy design more easily than anything ever made from nylon, so if you want to talk about who has the best apples thats cool. Just don't forget there are oranges out there when you want to talk about what is the best fruit.

I think that was directed at my post, so. . .

"Airsoft" quality means, it's fine if it's for fun, but not something to bet your life on.
"Real" use for tactical equipment is in a tactical role. Police SWAT, military combat arms, etc. The guys that do that stuff say to stay away from Condor. Eagle and Maxped are OK, HSGI, Tactical Tailor and Kifaru are the top.

Well I don't really need to do it, cause like i said i am happy with my gear. How far of a trip, what kind of load. drag it for how far on what kind of ground. Lets tests these pathetic bags out and squash the hearsay.

Any takers? what to help set perameters or tests? want to put up your pricey bags to some moderate testing? What style gear are we gonna test?

I upgraded from army surplus and my kids' school book bags to Maxpedition this year. These things are tough and well made. Maybe a little pricey, but all mine so far have been top quality. Don't know about Condor.

I've had both brands and the Maxped stuff is better built.

That said, I have a full size Condor pack right now that was traded into used and I've been using pretty heavy and it's holding up just fine.

Slightly lesser quality materials (ie zippers, strapping and nylon), very similar designs. But lets face it, Maxped stuff is overbuilt in reality. The bags are heavy as hell empty. A little lesser quality is hardly ever going to matter in the real world.

If I had zombies after me I guess I would opt for the Maxped stuff, harder to bite through, but for day to day hiking, school, travel....the Condor stuff is fine.

Thanks Shotgunner11 and everyone else. Maybe I can use the packs I have until the RAT JUNGLA pack is released. Too many choices!

Thanks,
Darin
