You can still get the AG Vanguard. It's about the same money as this tho.I have a wood handled version, and missed out on the Alaskan Guide. Well, I never pulled the trigger at least... I figured this would be a good substitute![]()

But sometimes they have a sale. I picked min up before Christmas for about 20% off.
they switched to a cerakoted blade instead of the titanium nitride or whatever that coating was. I prefer the old coating. nothing wrong with the cerokote, but just like the other coating better. You can still get the AG Vanguard. It's about the same money as this tho.

This is a great user knife. I much prefer the rubberized handle over the wood for a user and in S30V . I do really like the nickel/silver guard and pommel.Nice. Finally one I can get behind. And not much more than the regular off the shelf versions.
I went ahead and placed my order. Excited to see it.![]()
Changing the AG coating would be a crime, I need confirmation.
Not sure what to do here. I almost never carry a fixed blade or use one (so why do I have so many). The one I do have with me daily, that sits perched and ready in the center console of my truck is the rubber handled Vanguard. I have two others, wood handle and AG models. It is one of my favorite patterns.
This will make a good user at a good price I think.
Tic toc, Tic toc
Thanks jb, I appreciate the extra effort. I have points to spend and most probably will...View attachment 1339856
cabelas site either isnt updated to show new stuff yet and they got some old stock still available. bass has both available but for how long who knows.
should be said that the cerakote is a good product hard and smooth. should work fine as a working knife. I just like the old coating for its not quite black sheen and smoothness etc.
should also say I assume new stuff will all be cerakoted rather than titanium aluminum nitrates or whatever the older coating was. so best to buy while still around of ya like the older coating.
