May Be Done Carrying Customs

I think that I just lost my Mini Obenauf Model 2 at a store while trying on a coat. I'm pretty sick about this as you guys can imagine. As much as I like my customs, I may not carry them anymore because I cannot take a hit of losing a one of kind, $250+ knife. Even if I were to lose a William Henry or Sebenza, at least I could go to a store and buy another. My Obenauf was made to order to my specs. It's a good thing that I like my S30V Natives.:) It won't be like I'm toting junk.

That's why I like to have one good custom folder. Use it until it's destroyed or lost and then just get another. You'll be glad that you destroyed or lost it. Nothing is forever. I keep going back to productions and then sell them almost as soon as they arrive.

Anthony,

Turn your car or truck upside down! Search every crack, under each seat, and seat support. Check the pockets of the doors.

I have 'lost' more stuff than you'd imagine just by sitting in my truck, or figgeting while seated in a coat. I thought I lost my boss' knife this week, it was in the door pocket.

Anthony, never give up never surrender, I found a Benchmade Mini Reflex, over $100+, it went missing for 3 years. Then 1 day while taking out boxes of garbage I found laying on the floor where I had been going through boxes 3 years earlier.

I lost a Custom Bud Nealy, it was MIA for a good,(bad) year, and 1 night my wife came to me and said,"I've got something of yours and if you want it, you'll have to search me":) :D

The Tourist is right about cars. I almost lost my Calpyso PE cause it slipped out of my pocket. Luckly it was still lying on the seat and hadn't worked it's way into the crease yet.

I'd check not only the cars but every chair or sofa you sit on at home as well.

Anthony,
That sucks. I hope it turns up.
The last knife I lost was a Gerber LST. What pissed me off more than anything is I know where I lost it (at work) and I know it was picked up before the end of shift (I looked). And I know that the SOB that picked it up knew it was mine.

I am sorry that your knife is on vacation. I do hope it returns. Personally, I think that the first time I get a custom folder, I'll be getting some kind of sheath for it too.

I have lost a few knives myself.

Just last night I thought I locked myself out of my car by leaving the keys in the trunk and closing it. It would have been a bad night if I hadent checked all of the pockets in my jacket. :o

Check your other pants... That is where most of mine hide.

I'm hoping that it turns up but I think someone just picked up a really great folder. The tragedy is that the odds of someone finding it that will appreciate it are slim to none. On second thought, I will carry my other customs. They're paid for, and they might as well get used. Still, I could see me carrying more inexepensive folders, especially since my cheaper knives are damn good too.

It's a hard way to learn it, but you'll probably be just that much more conscious of where your good knife is now. Go ahead and carry the customs: "Life's too short to drink cheap wine!"

Sorry to hear of your loss. That really sucks. I have lost a couple of knives, but never a custom.I know that if I did, I would be really bummed out.

Go back to the store and ask if you can put up a sign in the window and offer a reward no questions asked.Say 50.00 and say something like its not a name brand knife or anything but it means alot to you.Chances are who ever found it would not know anything about a custom and may call you.Its a good chance that someone that works at the store found it.

Jeff, thanks for the suggestion. The biggest problem is that the store is about 100 miles from my home. Getting back there during the work week would be tough. Esav, I usually am very conscious about my good folders, but after driving 500 or so miles returning from a Thanksgiving trip, I took the Obenauf out of my back pocket where it had been in a zipper case and I put it in the side pocket of my hooded sweatshirt. It must have fallen out while I was trying on jackets. BTW, i did get a good deal on a jacket for what it's worth.
