May be moving from Seattle to Maryland/Virginia -- perspectives on gun regulation

Well don't move to Maryland if you dont have to, Virginia is very gun friendly Mayland not so much.

Registering it in Virginia you won't have. You will need a concealed carry permit to carry it legal concealed, of course you can carry it legally out in the open if you want.

Virginia is liberal on guns compared to most states. I can leave Florida & drive through Georgia,South & North Carolina & into Virginia with my concealed carry permit.
If I were to be stopped I would just inform the officer that I had a permit but would not produce the weapon. If he informed me it had to be displayed in that state, then I'd lay it on the front seat in plain view.
Fourteen states honor Florida's permit with some conditions. I would imagine it would work with Virginia's permit also.
Safest bet would google the state website & get the straight poop.

Carry [or not ] safely !

Virginia also has "shall issue" for concealed carry permits. You must pay a processing fee and you mist show proficiency in firearms safety, usually by taking a course, and have no record, but that iis it.

In Florida a DD-214 eliminates taking the required gun handling safety course but the license permit is $75.00 & the FBI fingerprint check[electronic ] is $ 38.00. The license is for 5 years ,renewable by mail.

In the '60's I sold in several states & was surprised to see how weapon sales were conducted in Virginia. Highway 301 was dotted with handy-way type stores & a lot of them sold handguns. They were mostly Saturday-night specials but a few ,near Richmond, sold better quality. Friends would ask me to pick up one for their nighttable.
My aunt wanted one & some blanks along with real loads. When questioned , she said," The first shot will warn 'em, the next one will be for real ! "
