Hi all,

I was cruising the guns and knives at a local store, and came across what I believe was a BM 42. I mean, it is definitely a Benchmade (logo markings and all), but I think it is the 42 since it had blue anodized scales. At any rate, it was marked (I'm recalling this from memory, so please correct me if it is wrong) "First Production 251/500". Price was around $140ish.

Now, I'm not a bali-swinger, flipper, or any of that (although I would eventually like to pick one up and learn). So, I will not be buying this one. I did think, though, that someone here might be interested in that knife since it is a first production run.

Please note that I am not affiliated with this store (it was actually my first visit since moving here), and I have no financial interest in this one. Merely the desire to help my fellow knifenuts! :)

One of the regulars here has informed me that he got the knife. I'll let him post about it if he so wishes.

I had hoped for a few replies to this, since I am kind of interested in the value of this particular piece. Does a "first production run" have collectible value, and is it determined by the number?

The number is a factor, like if someone had number 001/500 or 500/500 than those would be highly sought after. Others that are sought after are sequentially numbered ones, ie 201/500 and 202/500 etc.
First Productions are more valuable than regular productions but the protos are the most valuable IMO, especially some of the ones that Gollnick has.
