So I was scrounging around today and just may have found and anvil. There is an old blacksmith selling off all his tools and he has a 97lbs Peter Wright Anvil. He is asking $100 for, if its in good condition do you think its worth it?:D I get to go take a look tomorrow.

If it's in good condition and the current market? Right around $300-400.

Even if it's in halfway shitty condition... $97 for a Peter Wright is a steal.

If it's in good shape it is.
Most Wrights go for about 2-3 buck a pound,

If the face is flat, grab it. 100lbs is just right for most backyard blacksmithing, and certainly enough for knife making.

At a buck a pound, it should be a steal of a deal.

Well the deal isn't set in stone yet, he wants to sell everything in one sale and has someone looking at the tools right now and will call me tomorrow morning. I am hoping this one comes through for me, I was just about to break down and buy a cheap anvil shaped object.

As Nick said....a steal at that price.
The going rate is around $3. per lb...+
for any well made anvil.

Well I missed out, the older gentleman was nice enough to send mean email to tell me that he sold it, for the whopping sum of $120:(
I do have a line on a 200+lbs one with a huge steel pedestal so the total weight would be pushing 400lbs that I may be able to borrow. Being that my shop would be mostly outside and winters suck up here I think that one might be a little big for me to wrestle in and out, but I am still going to go take a look at it in the next few weeks

Check Craigslist for local anvil sales. There's a ton of anvil deals on there all the time.

Edit - I just noticed that you're in Canada...don't know if you have that there or not?

Yes we have Craigslist up here, but most people in and around Winnipeg use Kijiji, and for some reason anvils are far and few between in this area, either peole are hording them or they just aren't out there.
